GLOUCESTER TWP. — The dogs began barking as soon as Val Miller opened the door to the kennel at Homeward Bound Animal Shelter. There was Pinocchio, the brown pitbull mix with a wide smile, one of the lucky ones with an "I am getting adopted!" sign outside his enclosure. Rocky, a black and white pitbull, stood on his hind legs, looking for a little love. Juno, a grey pittie, went right to Miller, a vet tech and clinic manager at the shelter, looking for a treat. And sweet Gus Gus, who was found with his siblings on the side of a South Jersey highway, struck by a car and with a broken jaw, wagged his tail and waited for a forever friend to come along and take him home.
