An ongoing aggressive plan laid out nearly two years ago by the Eddy County Public Works Department to improve county roads resulted in hundreds of miles of completed work. Public Works Department data from July 2019 to September 2021 showed 665 miles of Eddy County roads will be bladed with a road grader, chip sealed or paved. A majority of Eddy County roads, or 346 miles, are chip sealed and 257 miles are bladed and another 60 miles are paved, per the data. Total cost of the work was $52 million as $20 million was allocated for work on collector roads across the county. The Federal Highway Administration (FHA) defines collector roads as major and minor roads that connect local roads and streets with major thoroughfares.
