Akron City Council approves Petros Homes' Merriman Valley development Carolyn Spivak Colbow Local residents voice their opposition to the Petros development in Merriman Valley at a rally last year. Akron City Council gave the green light to a contentious development in the Merriman Valley by approving a conditional-use variance that the project needs. Council voted 11-1, with one abstention, on Monday evening, Feb. 1, to give the variance to a project proposed by Petros Homes that will create 197 townhouses on Akron-Peninsula Road. According to Petros, the project will cost about $40 million and will be built in clusters of four, six and eight townhomes. Each townhouse will be between about 1,300 square feet and 1,600 square feet in size.
