A visiting the other hospitals and showing the support of the city and then obviously we have our congressman ruben cueing he is in town to also show us our support. So any other questions or the members standing before you. Well we have to establish what his motivation is person and theres motivating factors associated with terrorism other than distraught person just intending to cause mass casualties before we label with that itll be a matter of process. No we have not. No we have not we have not located any items within the room or his house at this point. Yes maam it was a matter of normal practice and whenever we are dynamic entry. When. We have information hes been there since the twenty eighth of september. So i have no idea as to whether he remained in the house keepers remunerate the room or not thats just a matter of continue to investigate. All right thank you very much well provide you an update probably in the next two hours thank you. So youve been listening to an update from the sheriff of clark county that is for las vegas is located its a new information coming out of this mass shooting where at least fifty people were killed four hundred injured what hes saying is the gunman sixty four year old Stephen Paddick apparently had at least ten rifles that is something that they found in the room also they were looking for a female companion of his come to find out according to the sheriff she actually was not even in the city in the state at this time he apparently was using her i. D. They say at this time it appears that she had nothing to do with this but that is an angle that they are still investigating and also appears that he has been in that room at mandalay bay since at least september twenty eighth but again theyre in the palm unary stages of this theyve also executed a search warrant on his home in the skeet in the skeet so yes this is the worst gun related attack in modern history President Donald Trump took to twitter to offer his warmest condolences to the victims lets go now to. Washington and a moment for us politics are the latest. This was the final night of a festival in las vegas when gunfire silenced the music. Witnesses say they were in absolute panic and pandemonium we were the furthest v. I. P. Stages away from mandalay bay and they were ricocheting everywhere we were saw it was they were firing from somewhere high and they were unloading clip after clip after clip after clip. Police say the shooter sixty four year old Stephen Paddick was on the thirty second floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel across the vegas strip. Offices responding to the shooting say they killed we located numerous firearms within the room that he occupied and thats and like i stated earlier its going to be of long and tedious investigation obviously this is a tragic incident and one that we have never experienced in this valley investigators were quick to tell the public that rumors of multiple shooters at several locations were false this is now the deadliest mass shooting attack in the u. S. Culture dirge on al jazeera. Joins us live now from the white house kimberly what has been the reaction i got out of the white house to the again the worst mass shooting in modern u. S. History. Right well there has been a reaction as you point out by the president on social media in the last couple of hours extending his warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the Las Vegas Shooting we also know from the press secretary Sarah Huckabee sanders that the president was informed of this pretty swiftly and that there was a close consultation because it was unclear exactly what was unfolding in that remains the case in terms of the motive but also just why this would would take place and what would cause somebody to act now i can tell you that were expecting to hear from the president he will be appearing at the white house for a previously scheduled event at fifteen of course we are expecting that he may Say Something at that time weve also got release a press release from the department of Homeland Security we do know that the acting Homeland Security secretary elaine duke in fact has been monitoring this and she has through the statement indicated that it is not just local officials who are investigating right now what is turning out to be a massive crime scene but also state and federal investigators including the f. B. I. Because whats interesting about this is this suspect who we now know from Police Killed himself he had no prior criminal record other than what is believed to be what they have police are calling a routine traffic stop at this time what the Homeland Security is saying is that people should always be cautious in public spaces but right now again theyre not exactly clear what his motive was and why he decided to fire on a crowd of thousands of people who were enjoying a concert ok theres going to be another press conference at the sheriff mentioned there in a couple of hours well check back in on that and check back in with you as well can really help that live for us in washington thanks can relate. Catalan is government is claiming victory in sundays referendum that says ninety percent of those who voted back secession from spain but only forty two percent of catalonia five point three million registered voters are believed to have turned out for that referendum thats just under two Million People many opposition groups in the region boycotted the vote because they believe the poll to be illegal in line with the Spanish Government and its estimated Spanish Police shut down about half of the polling stations are running many people from being able to vote either way. My niece. And the entire world is seeing that on one side we have beilenson shame and on the other a democracy and dignity and this is an easy election to have moreover this is an election that we asked both from the european institutions and from governments of other countries who want desire a call out for us to be able to build a more an open democratic world. Being coexistence is a good that we must begin to recover as soon as possible and i say very clearly im not going to close any door on if it did its not my way of doing politics ive always offered an honest sincere dialogue but always within the law and always within the democracy frame. John hendren has more from barcelona. Spain considered it a crime but catalonian leaders consider the reverend here a triumph they were aiming for a spectacular show of force when it came to turn out what they got was about forty percent thats far less than spectacular but there were extraordinary circumstances leading up to this spain tried to shut down the election it did not happen although the Spanish Police did certainly dampen turnout there were some brutal confrontations with demonstrators in which the demonstrators came out much for the worse Spanish Police invaded polling stations took out the ballots which they considered illegal so that reduced the number who were turned out so extraordinary circumstances nevertheless president carlos told me what ever the level of turnout was under spanish law it didnt matter he says that he will go forward with his efforts to declare independence if more and more people said yes in that vote and they certainly did by about ninety percent but here on the ground in spain the day after the referendum looks pretty much like the day before for this region or catalonia has a booming economy a booming Tourism Industry and a lot of people here say that is just the point with or without spain things here. We remain pretty much the same bangladesh and me and more have a great to set up a plan to repatriate more than half a million refugees who fled violence im in mars for kind state that was made after me and mars later on sun so chasing a representative to hold talks with thing with us his foreign minister the details of the plan have not been drafted but a group has been appointed to set up the efforts the un has called the exodus of over five hundred thousand one hundred to bangladesh since late august the worlds fastest developing refugee emergency in accuses me in march of ethnic cleansing at the lake is the executive director of unicef he joins us from coxs bazaar in bangladesh mr like thank you for joining us what have you seen since you have been there. Well i visited two refugee camps today and the side seen the extraordinary needs. Of the need for water the need for schooling for the children the need for counselling for the children i its immense i say i visited two cabs in fact its practically one camp now they were separated by about five kilometers now they are joined together because of this massive influx of people in huge need over sixty percent or so of these check of these refugees are children about a fifth of them are suffering malnourishment i could go on and on with this statistics we in the us and the governments and i think we all should thank the government for allowing them in across their border. But we are overwhelmed by the needs and we are working as fast as we can were increasing our efforts but we have a long way to go and they need all the help we can get to meet those needs i met with children and women just a few hours ago who told me the most horrific stories of the villages being burned of rape the man in families being killed while the women were raped and then allowed to go i could go on and on they then suffered in their efforts to get here by boat very dangerous or across minefields they now are in desperate need and we have to ask the question if they are repatriated. To what will they go will they be allowed to live at all related or will they consider continue to suffer as they have also in that process and mr lake i am its clear that families have been broken up as well how prevalent is the issue of children that are separated from their families. Well part of the problem is we dont know we know there are thousands of children who are separated unaccompanied children but we the populations hear him moving around so its very hard to get very good statistics on this because theyre not registered and and so its hard to know who is in which category but clearly there are many unaccompanied children and were working to try to get them back with their families they should be with families of some sort they should not be put into separate facilities and segregated from the rest of the refugees that will do. These are already very traumatized kids and to separate this that in this way would further traumatize and when they need all the support from human beings that they can get so its at this point are the numbers increasing at the same taste if they were a month ago or has it slowed down as it steadied. Its not a constant flow theyre coming in waves because they travel in groups so for the last few days the number has slowed somewhat and we dont know whether thats the beginning of a longer term trend or whether there will be new waves that depends of course on whether the atrocities continue on the other side of the border. Ok mr lake is it do you do you have the the resources you need the manpower you need or is this just an over whelming emergency. No we dont weve unicef weve been sending people from our headquarters and our regional offices and from our office in dhaka to serve people in here to try to help but were meeting somewhere or in some areas like water. And education maybe ten percent of the children so far we have plans to ramp up of course we need resources to help to do that if i could say so these children and these women who i met with they all need our help now but we also have to look to the future and these children are already suffering from a loss of their right now their childhood we have to give them a future and if we dont this is going to become an intergenerational problem that the region is going to have to live with for a long long time so now is the time to reduce the violence on the other side of the border and urgently to help these children now. Well said anthony lake with unicef mr like thank you. Plenty more ahead of the news hour including a malaysia two women accused of murdering the north Korean Leaders a strange half brother go on trial. On how many struggled to reunite shows how long the ricos road to recovery will be. And the sport n. F. L. Players continue to defy u. S. President donald trump details coming up in sport but peter. Have arrived in the gaza strip as part of efforts to mend ties with rival palestinian factions hamas the Palestinian Authoritys Prime Minister. Leading the delegation its his first visit to the strip since two thousand and fifteen has struggled with months of electricity electricity shortages address the need for unity to combat the Israeli Occupation of the palestinian territories. Now its time to stand together and to work the only beneficiary of a Long Division is the occupation in that context i would like to say the decision by hamas to respond to the initiative by palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas dissolve in gazas administrative committees is an important step upon which we will build we are confident that Mutual Understanding and positive will will prevail we look forward to working with old political factions. Harry fawcett. For us so. What do we expect for the meetings whats going to come whats happening. Well at the moment the meetings preliminary ones between mr huhne dollar and Ismail Haniyeh the political leader of hamas as well as the leaders of palestinian factions here we understand that a senior fatah representative here in gaza has opened up his house to host these meetings. And if the sort of the the warmth of the welcome that has been put on for the Palestinian Authority government is any sign then things are off to a pretty positive start there were hundreds of largely young people waiting for the arrival of this delegation at the Erez Crossing they were straining to hear they were climbing on top of roofs and on top of structures to to get a glimpse of what was about to happen and as part of his speech rami on dollar also said that there would be a specific focus on trying to improve the lives of young people because there is sixty percent youth unemployment here at the moment they have suffered perhaps more than anyone during the last ten years of power to palestinian political split and israeli and egyptian blockade the test will be now that hamas has removed itself from the immediate responsibility of trying to improve those lives can the Palestinian Authority step into the breach and make good on some of the promises that its been making harry remind us of what some of the obstacles have been before why this is failed in the past. Well certainly there have been other attempts during these these last ten years to try and get a unity government up and running again in two thousand and eleven there was the cairo agreement which really just crumbled away after a few weeks similarly in two thousand and fourteen there was a unity government sworn in but it never actually got to grips with running the gaza strip itself and some of the problems that will be up for discussion and off a negotiation during the course of this will be. For example who exactly runs the egyptian border the security on the border hamas and egypt have just recently done a deal on that now will the Palestinian Authority expect to assume sole responsibility there how the internal security of the gaza strip is run will they allow hamas officials and security staff to carry on being that the people on the ground or to what extent can they bring back the many thousands of Palestinian Authority workers who have been on the sidelines sitting at home getting paid by the p. A. But not paid as much recently during the recent restrictions and then there is the whole question of hamas as a military wing the brigades hamas is saying that that was never discussions. Over that in the fate of that were never on the table in these egypt brokered talks but there are but that has been a problem in the past who exactly has control of that very powerful military and indeed politically influential body and will it be able to be subsumed entirely under the authority of a new unity government those issues perhaps being postponed for now while they hand over ministerial power in the various ministries but they will be things that theyll have to try and solve at some stage in the future harry. Harry thank you. In an investigation has revealed that the Egyptian Government broken International Embargo on trading weapons with north korea. Has more. This north korean vessel flying a cambodian flag was intercepted by u. S. Intelligence agencies near. The ship was carrying a cargo of all but hidden underneath were thirty thousand rocket propelled grenades egypt initially denied it had anything to do with the seas cargo but a panel of United Nations investigators say the grenades were destined for the egyptian army.
