Their cars out of the way and then we saw work teams going in and starting to pick up the furniture and large pieces of furniture and move them out as well but one can only imagine that there is still stuff thats left in the what is in the rubble that has just taken about 2 hours for about 50 percent of that house to be destroyed now we are in East Jerusalem let me show you cross the road back is the west bank and theres a house that was probably standing just up again about 2 hours ago that is now being called into rubble there this is all happening because as you mentioned a military really that was made about 8 years ago where which said that nothing could be constructed within about 250 meters all of the separation wall that the separation wall here in this neighborhood runs up the center of the road and you can see obviously how close these buildings have been built these buildings have been built since the ruling came into effect bought this whole neighborhood falls under the control of the administration control. Of the Palestinian Authority are the people who built these houses that they were and had all the permits and all the authorizations to be able to go ahead and do this but no israeli authorities are saying that does not stand in the face of the military really that was made 8 years ago and these houses have to come down. Well we understand that so there are 3 families the 3 that i mentioned that are directly affected by this. We spoke to one of the families last week my colleague Bernard Smith interviewed them the people who lived in the pink house and they said they had no idea where they were going to go they were trying to rely on the goodwill of friends and other members of the family but if they have aides you know maybe 10 members of the family its very difficult to find somebody thats going to hire those all of them so that they actually have no idea of going to go the other families here as well are in a very similar position the numbers of people affected however do vary depending on who you talk to but one of the interesting thing is although were only talking about maybe 17 people in terms of the families who have been occupying some of these properties there are its estimated 350 people who have invested money in these properties to get them off the ground by the lines and to Start Building them that money is no go on and they cant get it back theres no sense no suggestion that theyre going to be is going to be any compensation from the israeli authorities because as a measure for israeli authorities determined that these properties were built illegally and do should not be in contravention of the military rule which is there for security reasons but not only that there is a sting in the tail for the people who own these properties because they are also going to have to pay for the demolition thats being carried out by the contract is and by the Israeli Military because they didnt do the demolition of themselves and one final thing we know that the Palestine Liberation Organization has been speaking about this this morning its describing these demolitions as a war crime and its calling for a meeting of the u. N. Security council to discuss these demolitions because one thing that the Palestinian Authority is very concerned about.
