A cover up. And a call for the president to step down and protesters say hes going back on a promise to rule for just 3 years. Hello boeing spending production of its bestselling 737 max aircraft from next month the plane was grounded worldwide in march after 2 fatal crashes within 5 months which killed 346. 00 people boeing has still been producing 42. 00 aircraft the decision to halt production follows the federal Aviation Authority saying its wouldnt approve the planes returned to service before 20200 john hendren is outside the boeing headquarters in chicago and he explains the impact of the companys decision. The boeing company has come to a momentous decision one that will reverberate throughout the u. S. And global economies and will affect the companys suppliers and airlines around the world one of the biggest decision from the companys more than century long history and that is that it will temporarily halt production of the controversial 737 next plane to those planes crashed in the past year and a half or so killing 346 people the company now says it is ready to reproduce those planes but until regulators approve it to go back up in the air its going to focus on the 400. 00 or so planes it now has ready for delivery and its going to deliver those planes this is a problem that has caused the company 9000000000 dollars and 9 months of uncertified occasion for that plane meaning it cannot fly so the company is now telling suppliers that theyre going to have to wait some of those suppliers are going to have problems of their own and airlines are going to have to make decisions as to whether they cancel planes or planes from rivals the u. S. Regulator in this case the federal Aviation Administration says it has no comment lets speak to carl bailey hes an aviation analyst and hes also a former f. A. A. Safety Team Representative hes joining us via skype from butler thats in new jersey hi there thanks for speaking to us on the aljazeera news hour so are you surprised by this decision for boeing to suspend production of the 737 max starting next month no im not surprised you know it looks like this is pretty much short term or the suspension of production and quite frankly theyre running out of room to store these airplanes i mean these are planes are actually parked in the boeing employee parking lots because they have no space they originally anticipated these airplanes were moved and are now moving because theyre not flying its plain and simple what impact do you think this is going to have on suppliers. You know it looks like its a short term us hole in production so i think thats actually good news for the suppliers there isnt going to be and most likely not any layoffs in the supplier pipeline it would be very hard to for example say if boeing were to suspend for 6 months or for a year it would be hard to restart because they have in excess of 300. 00 suppliers different suppliers for the 737 max airplane so if they were to suspend a long term that would mean employees layoffs at the suppliers and it would be very hard to restart the fact that this looks like its for now short term in that regard its good news because theyre most likely wouldnt have to be layoffs on the supplier level and what about the an airliner right then what about the airline or is the use this type of aircraft different see any sort of chaos there there will be chaos the bottom line is once a green light is given by the f. A. A. The airplanes will start flying very very quickly these airplanes sitting on the ground are costing the airlines lots of money so once the green light comes from the f. A. A. These are planes will surely all be back in the skies flying and when do you think the f. A. A. Will be giving that green light you know its very hard to say its its pretty its not looking good that its been pushed back time after time after time keep in mind were at were at about i believe 8 or 9 months right now so you know since the crash in march and you know originally they were they were sank within a couple weeks and then that was pushed back again but if i have to give speculation i think its safe to say that within 6 months the airplanes will probably be be flying and how damaging though has all of this been for for boeing in the public perception. You know for boeing as your reporter indicated its cost them in excess of 9000000000. 00 you know this crisis and the crash and the aftermath but the interesting thing here is that public the image of the airplane i believe has been tarnished i mean this is been all over social media for 9 straight months of unlike weve ever seen before in previous crashes and the 737 max name now is pretty much tarnished because Everybody Knows they are playing and i think theres going to be a lot of people are afraid to get off that airplane and one thing that a boeing can recover from. Booking but recover on i think 16 months or so goes by in the plot the planes fly there might be some hesitation at 1st but the bottom line is people have to travel and i think things will get under way probably after about 6 months i think the Public Opinion that all of this will probably be in the Rearview Mirror for the most part all right bailey we thank you for joining us on the news hour and aljazeera thank you. Personal integrity and that is the most that i can do to show people that i scare them even if we dont agree but even before the Impeachment Vote is cast in the u. S. House which is expected this week the debate over the senate trial is underway that trial would decide whether trump should be removed from office trump is pushing for a full hearing to clear his name one that would include witnesses and testimony he believes could hurt his democratic rivals now democrats have announced they want their own witnesses to testify including trumps acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney and former National Security advisor john bolton to cover up his efforts the white house discouraged both you not to cooperate with the house in corrie even though both men could shed light on trumps motivations for withholding military aid to ukraine the basis for the impeachment investigation these people know better than anybody else the facts there is no reason on gods green earth why they shouldnt be called and testify unless youre afraid of what they might say trump has repeatedly claimed no wrongdoing when he asked ukraines president to do him a favor and investigate the son of his political rival joe biden on allegations of corruption trumps personal attorney Rudolph Giuliani fresh from a trip to ukraine has threatened to expose corruption and bribery on the part of members of the white house under u. S. House of representatives he says forcing john bolton and nicole running to testify could backfire on the democrats. Bolton has hinted that he has a lot of very Important Information that hasnt been presented yet about the ukraine situation and whether its favorable or unfavorable and to which side is remains an open question but i think they would like to know what he has to say now to put bolton on the stand to testify without knowing in advance what hes going to stay to say its somewhat like playing russian roulette i mean you dont know what youre going to get the same thing with motivate me i mean one point. Said that there was a deal with the ukrainians and then he walked it back his credibility is not terribly high but still i think they would like to go after him about that the democrats were its important for the facts to get out for the house to take a stand and to say this was wrong if the republican controlled majority in the senate is willing to accept this well then so be it but history should record that the house felt that this. Conduct was unacceptable and i think many people whove looked at it believe its even worse much worse than what went on in the Richard Nixon near impeachment which led him to resign.
