The manipulation of tender processes cannot be pinned on State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) alone, and the businesses in the private sector also need to be held accountable in their role in facilitating state capture, according to Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan.
The minister, at a briefing on Friday, was speaking alongside officials of Eskom, the Special investigating Unit (SIU) and Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Ronald Lamola. Eskom board chairperson Professor Malegapuru Makgoba had announced that ABB South Africa, has reached a settlement agreement to repay Eskom R1.56 billion. It relates to overpayments made by the power utility to ABB in the construction of Kusile power station.
