The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) released the results on Thursday, which showed that the ANC retained 27 wards, won three and lost just one.
The by-elections were held across 25 municipalities in the Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Mpumalanga on Wednesday.
The Patriotic Alliance (PA) won two new wards, while the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) retained one ward and won one. Jacaranda FM
