Raymond Bowe/BarrieToday The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 100 new COVID-19 cases and the death of a Barrie resident in today's update (April 9). The Barrie man who died was over 79 years old, and his case was linked to the outbreak at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre's cardiac/renal unit. He died on April 6. The week of April 4-10 could turn out to be a record-setting seven days for the health unit. The health unit has not finished reporting for the week yet, but there have been 402 confirmed cases between April 4 and 10 and the highest number of cases reported in a week was 495 for the week of Jan. 3-9.
