By Carol Thomson Jul 17, 2021 | 2:57 PM The number of active forest fires has risen by 14 since Friday morning, with 151 being reported by the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency as of Saturday afternoon Of those, 35 are not contained, seven are contained, 85 are under assessment, and the SPSA is protecting property on 24 of them. There have been 405 wildfires this year which is almost double the five year average of 211. For an updated look at the numbers, which can change frequently, click here. There are 13 fires of note: The Lock fire is near the communities of St. George’s Hill, Michel Village, Dillon and Buffalo River Dene Nation. The SPSA says the fire is within 5.6 kilometres of Michel Village.
