January 31, 2021 | Reported By : Junaid Kathju Srinagar, Jan 30:Expressing concern over the "illegal" import of Iranian apples from Afghanistan to India, Kashmir-based apple traders have sought Government of India's (GoI) intervention to save them from incurring huge losses. In an SOS letter to Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goel, Jammu and Kashmir Fruit and Vegetable Processing and Integrated Cold Chain Association (JKPICCA) sought restriction on the entry and sale of imported apples from Iran through Afghanistan. "...We would like to bring to your notice that some fruit traders have started importing Iran apples through Wagah border unlawfully under the trade name of Afghan apple misusing the FTA between India and Afghanistan..," the letter reads.
