In last weekâs Broad Top Bulletin, we recalled the 25th anniversary of the disastrous âFlood of 1996â that occurred in mid-January of that year. A footnote to that story is that the unidentified man who was stuck in a tree for several hours and had to be rescued by a National Guard helicopter was identified as Brian Donaldson. As noted last week, the area experienced several other flood events throughout the year that were both destructive and not as destructive as the January flood but nevertheless did occur and caused damage for area residents affected. And while it took some time to clean up from the January flood, it wasnât until seven months later that some Carbon Township residents living along Shoupâs Run began to receive assistance to make their properties totally habitable once again.
