Editor: Iâm writing to commend your recent âjeersâ comment about our legislatorsâ non-accountable expense plan. I really wish someone would do an investigation into this. I am a tax accountant and the IRS code states that the reimbursement for a non-accountable plan must be reported as income on their tax return â I wonder if this is being done for those representatives that have $1.4 million in expenses, using taxpayerâs money? And if not, why are they above the law? Iâm thinking of all the places that money would be better spent: our education system, grants for small businesses, healthcare for those that work and donât have it or canât afford their employerâs plan, improving our infrastructure, building up recreational places and programs to attract people outdoors, funding for organizations like the YMCA and other community centers to aid in affordable daycare for working parent. Iâm sure there are many more.
