For about 20 years, Dave MacGregor has lived by the credo of jumping off the east pier in Port Alfred and going surfing religiously every New Year’s Day — come rain, shine, east wind, west wind, warm, cold, good waves or bad, he jumps. He speaks his mantra as he hits the water at the start of the year, “surf more, work less”, as he paddles out.
