Avon beach nourishment project on the table April 14, 2021, by Zlatan Hrvacevic Dare County officials recently proposed a beach nourishment project for Avon that will place over 1 million cubic yards of sand along the 2.5 miles of oceanfront. Last week, the Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to proceed with the process of establishing a special tax service district in the Village of Avon for the county’s proposed beach nourishment project. According to the County Manager Bobby Outten, all statutory requirements had been met because there is a demonstrable need for the project. It is impossible or impractical to provide this service county-wide. The project is economically feasible and there is a demonstrable demand for the project by property owners within the proposed service district.
