AWES undertakes 'Greener Longjang' project

Dimapur, June 9 (EMN): Under ‘Greener Longjang’ project, Amenty Welfare and Educational Society (AWES), in collaboration with the youth ministry of Longjang Baptist Church, planted more than 500 tree saplings in Longjang village on June 5 to help the area regain its green cover. The saplings were provided by the office of the divisional forest officer, Mokokchung. A press release from AWES stated that Rev. S Moa Aier, chairman of Longjang village council, and president of Longjang Students’ Union (LSU) spoke during a formal programme held at Rev. Yaongsangba Memorial Hall. Moalemla Y, AWES secretary, delivered the vote of thanks. It stated that Imdongshilu Ao, AWES director, has stressed the importance of tree plantation and maintenance of plants. He explained the benefits of planting trees ranging from health to environmental impact, economics and even psychological effects. Imdongshilu also emphasised reducing waste, reducing e-waste, saving water, and saving energy and encouraged the community to say no to single-use plastic and to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Rev.
