In discussing the background and rationale to this, Sumner said food insecurity and the environmental impact of industrial food production and distribution are increasing concerns to many people, that food impacts more than 1.2 million children living in Canada, which negatively impacts social, mental and physical health, and that food insecurity has been brought to the forefront for many people as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
