Professor SM Jayakar, the Vice-Chancellor of BU, elaborated on the rationale behind this decision. He stated, “Final-year students often need to pursue further courses or jobs. If a student fails in a few subjects, they would otherwise lose a valuable year. To prevent this, we are introducing supplementary exams.” The university’s highest decision-making body, the syndicate, recently approved this new approach. This scheme is particularly beneficial for fifth and sixth-semester students and is set to take effect in the 2023-24 academic year.
