Barbados records six house fires in the first 10 days of 2021

"We need to minimise the fires."
This stern piece of advice comes from Leading Fire Officer Rudolph Farnum as the country records its sixth house fire for the year. The latest fire yesterday, Sunday, January 10, saw an apartment and all its contents completely destroyed by the blaze while the other units received minimal water damage.
The blaze was reported at 4:54 am and two water tenders from the Bridgetown Fire Station responded to the Wanstead, St James location.

With one of this year's house fires being considered as fatal, Farnum is calling on residents to "be more careful".
He said that persons need to use candles only in safe environments and keep the flame away from curtains and such that could blow and catch on fire. Also he called on people not to ignore electrical issues.
