Tip top condition. Rundown good morning, welcome to breakfast with chris mason and victoria fritz. 0ur headlines today president Trumps White House is branded inept, insecure and dysfunctional in leaked emails from the uk ambassador. A three Million Pound plan to transport medicines and blood into the uk in the event of a no deal brexit. Its saturday night prime time on centre court as andy murray and Serena Williams play and win together for the first time at wimbledon. A lot of fine weather around for most of us this weekend. Looking a bit more changeable as we go into next week. All the details in a few moments. Its sunday, the 7th ofjuly. Our top story the white house has been described as uniquely dysfunctional and inept in leaked memos from the uks ambassador in washington. Sir kim darrochs private communications, which were obtained by the mail on sunday, describe president Trumps Administration as insecure and incompetent. 0ur reporter andy moore is outside the Foreign Office this morning with the details. We are so we are so used to diplomacy with its clothes on, perfectly calibrated language, but this is diplomacy with its clothes off very colourful language, and it is unusual to hear these private communications being put in the public domain, and there are put in the public domain, and there a re lots of put in the public domain, and there are lots of them. They date from 2017 to the present, and most of them are very unflattering about mr trump. Sir kim darroch says it is very unlikely his administration will ever become competent, he says most of the stories you have heard about vicious infighting, most of them are true. He says the president himself radiates insecurity even though he is the most powerful man on the planet, and he says in order to get through to him you have to be pretty simple, even blunt, in your message. As to the president s future, he says he may crash and burn, but on the other hand he says you mustnt write him off. The Foreign Office here, unusually, are commenting on these cables. They are not denying they are accurate, saying they are the honest, unvarnished assessment of an ambassador, and that is what you wa nt ambassador, and that is what you want from an ambassador, they say. They say the league itself is mischievous, and no doubt the American Ambassador in the uk is sending similar cables back to washington, but from the white house itself, no response yet, but these very embarrassing documents could test, i think, very embarrassing documents could test, ithink, the very embarrassing documents could test, i think, the special relationship between the uk and the us. I wonder who is causing the mischief, that is the increase with lea ks mischief, that is the increase with leaks like this entering. Its been revealed that the department of health is planning to spend three Million Pounds on a service to transport medication, in the event of a no deal brexit at the end of october. It wants to hire an express Freight Service to transport medicines, blood and transplant tissue. But experts have described the timeline for the contract as tight. Katy austin reports. When a multi Million Pound ferry contract was awarded to seaborne freight, which had never run a ferry service, the way the government was securing deals to deliver contingency plans for a no deal brexit came under intense scrutiny. Now there is a new brexit date and new plans are being drawn up in case the flow of goods in and out of the uk is disrupted by leaving the uk without a deal. The eu without a deal. Things are being done differently, more flexible freight contracts are already being planned, and tussell, a data provider on government contracts, has noticed the department of health is planning to spend 3 Million Pounds on an express Freight Service, making sure there is a continuous supply of medicines, blood and transplant tissue. It says its good to see a full procurement procedure being used, but that the timeline for the service being ready is tight, something a legal expert agrees with. A department of health and social care spokeswoman said the speed of the contract is within the usual guidelines. France and iran have agreed to look at conditions for resuming talks to try to save tehrans nuclear deal with world powers. More protests are expected in hong kong today as the row over chinas control of the region continues. Activists, who caused extensive damage to the Parliament Building last week, are fighting against a controversial bill allowing extradition from hong kong to mainland china. Lets talk to our china correspondent, robin brant. What are we expecting today . We are told to expect around 2000 protesters gathering here, just as many police on standby. I think it sta rts many police on standby. I think it starts in about1. 5 many police on standby. I think it starts in about 1. 5 hours, and they are going to walk one or two miles from this venue, which is a park right by the water up to the train station, where you can get the express trying to take you up to mainland china. They said they want to keep the protests going, they had that peak moment earlier this week when a group stormed in and occupy the legislative council, which is the legislative council, which is the equivalent to hong kongs parliament. The target today is not a political target. Iam parliament. The target today is not a political target. I am on the kowloon side of hong kong, the part of hong kong that is actually attached to the mainland, and there are attached to the mainland, and there a re lots of attached to the mainland, and there are lots of Chinese Tourists here. They come here to shop, and the protesters say they want to focus on those people today, engage with them and find out what they are so angry about and get them to support their cause. There are jitters on both sides, nobody is sure how it will play out, police are urging protesters to be peaceful. Many protesters to be peaceful. Many protesters feel the only way to continue to get attention here in hong kong and globally that they wa nt hong kong and globally that they want is to be more aggressive, but well see. Surrounded by the immediate members of his family, among whom were the two sisters of diana, princess of wales. Jane fellows and sarah mccorquodale. A second photo showed archie just with his parents, and that was it. Just the two images, underlining the determination of harry and meghan to draw as much privacy as possible around their sons life. But there are concerns that the principal members of a family that receive so much public money should be prepared for some scrutiny. It is a shame, everyone has come for the day and no one gets to see them. I think they are entitled to their privacy. Personally i think they should have been a bit more accessible. I think it is fine to be private, but it would be nice if they they could have come out. As a father of five, the first instinct is to protect your children, so i understand that. Archie harrison mountbatten windsor, already at the heart of an argument about where the line on privacy should be drawn. The news that iran is set to breach Nuclear Restrictions for the second time in as many weeks has grabbed International Attention once again. They are demanding that European Countries find ways to ease the impact of us economic sanctions that were imposed by President Trump. We can speak now to professor of International Politics at the London School of economics, fawaz gerges. Hes in our london newsroom. How significant do you think this conversation was between the french president and his iranian counterpart, as an attempt to try to find a way through this . counterpart, as an attempt to try to find a way through this . I think it is part of the conversation between the iranian leadership and the eu. Sadly, the iranian leadership is not convinced that europe is capable or willing to really help it escape the sanctions imposed by the trump administration. So, iran is gradually and systematically trying to exceed the limits set on it by the nuclear deal in 2015, because what iran is trying to do is really increased the costs of the so called maximum pressure Economic Policy imposed by the us, so i doubt very much whether the iranians will accept the verbal commitments either by the germans, the british or the french. Ultimately, does this boil down to the fact that even the us sanctions, there is not a lot the european powers can say or do that fundamentally alters the situation as far as tehran is concerned . think you are absolutely correct. If you look at the relationship between germany and iran, you are talking about 7 billion, almost. We dont know the exact numbers. 7 billion in trade between germany and iran. Trade between germany and the us is 300 or 400 million. So any french 01 300 or 400 million. So any french or british or German Company that dares to do business with iran would be terribly punished by the american sanctions, because you are talking about huge economic steaks. Just to give your own view is a glimpse or a sense of what were about, the American Economic sanctions have crippled the iranian economy. Inflation is more than 40 , unemployment is the unofficial figure is 30 . The prices of staple foods like bread and eggs and milk basically have skyrocketed. The iranian rial, the regional currency, has lost more than 50 or 60 of its value, so the American Economic sanctions have really had Significant Impact on the daily lives of iranians, and iran is desperate. It is trying to show that it has options, and the only option it has options, and the only option it has options, and the only option it has so far is to basically try to exceed the limits set on it by the nuclear deal that was signed by the great powers in 2015. You seem to be hinting that not only does the imposition of these sanctions have dire consequences for the iranian people, but they could be counter productive if, it could push iran to develop what is necessary for a nuclear weapon. That is exactly what we are seeing. The nuclear deal that was signed between iran and the great powers in 2015 was designed to freeze the Iranian Nuclear programme. Iran was almost only one year away from developing a nuclear weapon. By pulling out of the nuclear deal, President Trump basically has created, has triggered, this particular crisis. The irony is that the us now has called on the United NationsInternational Atomic to sanction iranfor International Atomic to sanction iran for exceeding the limits on its nuclear deal, but it was a us that triggered the crisis in the first place. In europe now we find ourselves between a rock and a hard place, between the rock of donald trump and a hard place of the iranian leadership that is trying to exceed the limits on the nuclear deal and ultimately be closer to developing a great weapons fuel. So, there is significant anxiety in europe, and the british seizure of the iranian supertanker a few days ago has really poured gasoline on the fire. Ifear we ago has really poured gasoline on the fire. I fear we are going to see more of this particular crisis in the next few weeks and next few months. We appreciate your insight, thank you very much for getting up early for us. Wright lets check in with susan and have a look at the weather. Heres susan with a look at this mornings weather. Is the dry, settled weather going to continue . I think we will see a lot more dry weather again today but not all of us will get it straightaway. It is looking pretty lovely here first thing in clapton in essex. Im expecting rain to sweep through in the next few hours. We have a front and it has me it has been making a slow journey south. We and it has me it has been making a slowjourney south. We were expecting it to be out of the way friday but its actually taking most of saturday and a little bit of sunday before it will finally pull off into that continent. Tail will bring wet weather the next few hours into central southern england and the far south east. In the afternoon, more sunshine here. Further west, a bit more cloud building across the south west of england and wales, maybe a bit of drizzle, and close to the north sea, some cloud pulling in on the northerly breeze and a few showers to the north of scotland. Perhaps some of the north east of england, the odder sharper one and cooler on north sea just 14 in newcastle. The odd sharper one. If you have been built make following the womens world cup and who hasnt . In the stade de lyon, that he has broken a little in france but we are still talking about 30 degrees now. Closer to home, low 20s to the south of the uk, high teens further north. Quite chilly in the sheltered get sheltered glens to the north of scotland, loads of just sheltered glens to the north of scotland, loads ofjust two or three degrees and for the early part of july, that is quite extraordinary. Some frost could be possible here. We have all slipped into a northerly airstream and beautiful clear air on monday and widespread sunshine until a warm front comes in and tries to spoil it for those in Northern Ireland by bringing the cloud and the rain come monday afternoon. Essentially, a dry story for monday and temperatures around average values once again. Here is that warm front trying to trickle its way in. It is pushing up against an area of High Pressure which sits to the south, holding the picture steady across southern england and wales. For tuesday, a dry day with perhaps some increasing cloud but further north, rain coming into scotland and cumbria and as far south as lancashire. At average temperatures are looking unsettled next wednesday and thursday become next weekend, High Pressure is building once again and the temperature is building again. Next weekend looks good.
