We have had tons and tons of waste that we have produced over recent weeks, already in place here. Just under way, you have your glass and your bottles. We are at a recycling plant in manchester this morning looking at what happens to all that waste we have produced. A third more than normal. Here in this plant they produce about 200,000 tons of waste each year. 180 articulated lorries, imagine them in articulated lorries, imagine them in a row. That is what they get. Mike is in charge. It got a bit noisy all ofa is in charge. It got a bit noisy all of a sudden. Yeah. What is going on, what will we see through the rest of the morning . We will take all of manchesters recyclable waste that we nt manchesters recyclable waste that went into the bins at home. We separate the different materials, plastics and cans and glass bottles, then we repurposed and repackage them to go out to the recyclers and return to different products. Why do they need separating . Dont we a lwa ys they need separating . Dont we always put them in the right bins . Well, yes, they need to go out and separate little bales or loose material to go out into the recycling that goes up and down in the uk. So what is happening here . This is the glass system, all the glasses getting broken down to various different sizes, the glass bottles can be turned into different glass bottles, up and down and different facilities up and down the country. Margaret joins us from northampton university. We will have a talk to you about the way our policies are going in the uk, what we do, what we put in our bins, which government decisions affect that. What has changed in the last year. Is there anything different this christmas, compared to last year. Lots of exciting things will be coming up, plans that we all have the same stuff, dead from curbside. Plans to simplify the labels. Instead of saying check locally, at cetera, they say things like yes or no for recycling. Plans for food waste collection. Lots of things. For people who have opened all of their presence and are looking at their presence and are looking at their rubbish now and putting it in their rubbish now and putting it in their recycling bins, but so you have recycling or plastic from your childrens toy, can you put it that in recycling. You are better not, putting a residual always been, unless it has electricals, in which case you need to dispose of it with your electricals. Any trends for presence this year that you have noticed people buying more or less of, because they may be trying to be a bit more waste conscious . of, because they may be trying to be a bit more waste conscious . I have noticed a big trend in people buying a reusable straws, and i think we need to be careful that we dont just buy stuff that we dont need because we think it is environmentally friendly. Do you see that generally over the year . Whether it is a bamboo toothbrush or a reusable straw, reasonable coffee cup seem to be everywhere. Is that a good thing . It can be a good thing but somebody said to me the other day, ive got loads of reusable coffee cups. I said, i think you have missed the point. Thank you, we will talk to you more about what goes into our bins over the course of the morning. We will have a look at exactly how they filter it out. When you get it wrong in your been, how did they split it . And what happens to the stuff next . Because this is actually worth something. Sean, thank you. I am looking forward to know what to put in the bins. Recycling tips, places, they are always fascinating. They really are. It is 6 22am. Ben probably has more interesting things to talk about.
