Lets bring you this breaking story from the netherlands, several people were killed by a gunman who opened fire in a classroom at a university in the dutch port city of rotterdam, according to local police, a 32 year old suspect was arrested after police set on social media that shots had been fired at the Rotterdam Medical Centre and a nearby home. They also said that fires had broken out at both locations. Police instructed students to run outside as heavily armed arrest teams arrived at the scene. Two hours later, police said there had been multiple deaths and that victimss Family Members were being informed. So that is the latest coming from rotterdam, and we will bring you more as it develops. The separatist leader of Nagorno Karabakh has formally ended the territorys struggle for independence. Samvel shakhramanyan issued a decree saying that at the end of the year, the republic of Nagorno Karabakh will cease to exist. The region is recognised internationally as part of azerbaijan, but armenia took control in the 1990s following the collapse of the soviet union. Azerbaijan mounted in effect a blockade of a vital route into the enclave in december last year. Just over a week ago, Azerbaijani Forces seized control. More than half the Ethnic Armenian population has now fled, fearing violence. Armenian Officials Say more than 70,000 people have now crossed their border. Many have ended up in the Armenian Border town of goris from where our correspondent Sarah Rainsford gave us this update there are huge crowds here in the centre of goris this morning, lots and lots of people. Tens of thousands have now left Nagorno Karabakh and are heading here to armenia. And in border towns like this, there is now a massive aid effort under way. It is notjust the government that is helping out, there is also local businesses bringing donations and local people who are offering rooms and houses for people to stay in. We have seen people arriving here with cars packed full of belongings. There was one this morning that had chickens, a cage of chickens strapped to the roof and a bicycle, a childs bike on top of that. People are bringing everything they can carry, but of course it is not very much, and so their needs are pretty huge as they arrive here. And there are groups of families, large families, lots and lots of children just sitting around on the grass or in some shade here, getting food, getting some help, but really, their future now is pretty uncertain. They dont quite know where they go from here, but what they do know now is that they wont be going back. In fact, there has been a formal statement by the separatist authorities in Nagorno Karabakh, that region that has never been internationally recognised, they have now said that formally speaking, all State Institutions there will be dissolved by the end of this year, and that the republic of artsakh, as armenians call it, will cease to exist. People i have been speaking to here have been very saddened by that, but also they are angry. They say they have been abandoned by the armenian government, that they were abandoned, and this was inevitable. They have called it a tragedy because so many people here have actually fought over the years for the right to be in control of that sliver of territory in the mountains, and now they have had to abandon that of independence. An update on the numbers of people fleeing Nagorno Karabakh, that number has gone up to 74,400 people who have now crossed into armenia from Nagorno Karabakh, that 74,400 people, the number of people who have crossed into armenia as a result of those developments in Nagorno Karabakh. Sir Michael Gambon has died peacefully in hospital at the age of 82. Sir michael one for tv pathos, worked across tv, radio, film and theatre in a career stretching five decades. In recent years, he played Albus Dumbledore in six of the harry potter films. Lets go to actor bernie gorman, who starred with Michael Gambon. Its a smaller screen than your use to, but we look forward to hearing your reflections on Sir Michael Gambon. There is a quote attributed to you on the internet that claims that you have said, i always look up to people like Michael Gambon and tommy leejones, and i hope as a ill become as craggy as them. Now is a good time to find out whether you actually said that. Actually said that. Thats right, and its working actually said that. Thats right, and its working who actually said that. Thats right, and its working who have actually said that. Thats right, and its working who have thought . Its a very sad day for the whole in so Many Industries he did them all, and what i remember most about michael was that i did my first film, very nervous, layer cake all those years ago, and i think what a lot of me and other young actors at that time remember was his kindness. He was very, very present and kind, and interested in you people who had barely done anything at the time but i met him actually at a costume fitting and he was just a great raconteur, but was also very interested in you, which is quite unusual in the business. Interested in you, which is quite unusual in the business. Thats the thin , unusual in the business. Thats the thing. Isnt unusual in the business. Thats the thing. Isnt it . Unusual in the business. Thats the thing, isnt it . Most unusual in the business. Thats the thing, isnt it . Most people unusual in the business. Thats the thing, isnt it . Most people are thing, isnt it . Most people are remembering him as an actor theyve only ever met him on the screen, but what was it like to work with him . Because it sounds like, from what youre saying, there was a real genuine warmth and kindness. Yes, and i think youll find that other actors will respond that there was always a sense of mischief about michael. Sometimes, anarchic, irreverent, fun, but most importantly what i remember is that he taught me and others to take the business very seriously, but to hold it lightly. You know, you could never say about an absolute oak of the theatre that he didnt take it seriously my goodness, when he walked on the stage, you couldnt take your eyes off him, he was completely a creature of the theatre. From Lawrence 0livier post mike First National theatre ensemble, he was there, but there is a sense of fun about him, a likeness, a touch of fun with the material, like a wink, but he was a very serious heavy weight of the craft. It very serious heavy weight of the craft. ,. ,. , craft. It would seem that came across on the craft. It would seem that came across on the screen craft. It would seem that came across on the screen because i craft. It would seem that came across on the screen because many people talk about the twinkle in his eye. And i think we certainly see that as the audience, when we watch him. But what mark do you think hes left within your community as actors . In the world of writing, world theatre, tv and film . Its world theatre, tv and film . Its interesting. World theatre, tv and film . It s interesting, you saying that list lets be honest, michael was at the top of his game and every one of those, you only need to remember the Singing Detective, the beckett work he did in a way, hes linked to the past for slightly younger actors like myself, but also hes involved in the obviously extremely successful harry potter franchise where my kids are now starting to be introduced to him as dumbledore. So he was just introduced to him as dumbledore. So he wasjust a introduced to him as dumbledore. So he was just a man who was a giant spanning across all that. Very successful in hollywood, we forget that he would always come back to the theatre and do radio one day he was just a touchstone, and these younger actors, thats what you need. You need a heavy weight that you can look up to and see that a guy is doing quality work but he still remains interested, and not take himself too seriously, which is not always the case once youve got a knighthood, i imagine. A knighthood, i imagine. Laughter quite, but a knighthood, i imagine. Laughter quite. But it a knighthood, i imagine. Laughter quite. But it is a knighthood, i imagine. Laughter quite, but it is extraordinary, a knighthood, i imagine. Laughter quite, but it is extraordinary, as quite, but it is extraordinary, as you point out, that his career spans such a long time, there will be fans who really only know him from harry potter because they are quite young, yet there will be those who remember him from things he did 50 years ago. And thats quite extraordinary, isnt it . It and thats quite extraordinary, isnt it . ,. , isnt it . It is, and you must remember isnt it . It is, and you must remember that isnt it . It is, and you must remember that isnt it . It is, and you must remember that what isnt it . It is, and you must remember that what inspired remember that what inspired me about him was he was a working actor. He started off i believe you started off in dublin, then he was part of Lawrence 0livier s theatre, then up at birmingham, he learned his craft on the job in those old repertory theatres, but he also still remained the magic of youtube is that you can go back and see his performances certainly on the television that he did for the bbc, for example. I dont know, he just remained continually inspiring. You could go and see him in the theatre, he remained accessible, with all his success and whatever. And i also know that michael was also interested in things. I believe his father was an engineer, that may be wrong, but i remember he was interested in Replicant Guns and vintage cars, you know, he was interested in other things, notjust acting. And it was fascinating to just sit with him and hear opinions about things, and always a very interesting point of view. Its a sad day. It interesting point of view. Its a sad da. , , sad day. It is, but its been fascinating sad day. It is, but its been fascinating to sad day. It is, but its been fascinating to talk sad day. It is, but its been fascinating to talk to sad day. It is, but its been fascinating to talk to you. Sad day. It is, but its been l fascinating to talk to you and sad day. It is, but its been fascinating to talk to you and hear your reflections, so thank you very much for sharing all your remembrances and reflections, and i think its wonderful to hear what he was like as an actor and person to work with. So thank you very much, burn gorman. Work with. So thank you very much, iturn german new rules have been published for what presenters on flagship bbc programmes can say on social media, following a row over gary lineker s posts. In march, the bbc presenter was suspended for a tweet criticising the governments asylum policy. He was then reinstated after a few days. The report says high profile presenters should be allowed to express views on issues and policies, but should stop short of political campaigning. David sillito reports. This is all taking place because of what happened in march, when gary lineker was briefly suspended from Match Of The Day because of a tweet. Chaos ensued when commentators and presenters downed microphones in protest. It led to a rather quieter form of football coverage. The Offending Tweet was a criticism of the governments policy over asylum seekers, which gary lineker described as immeasurably cruel, and the language used not dissimilar to that used by germany in the 30s. That row was resolved by the promise of a review, which we have today, and a recommendation that high profile presenters outside ofjournalism should be able to express views on issues and policies including matters of political contention, but stop short of campaigning in Party Politics activist organisations. In the previous guidance, it said not to take sides on issues which are Party Political or political controversies, and the new approach says you can do that, so long as you stay true to the facts of the issue itself. That is a significant change. The bbc has also named certain programmes such as masterchef where presenters will have to take extra care about what they say on social media when programmes are on air. Lord sugar will have to watch what he tweets when the apprentice is on air. Chris packham is also not on the list, although he is well known for his views on environmental issues. These guidelines are guidelines, not hard and fast rules. All of news and current affairs, they are absolutely within the bbc by extremely tight guidelines, that remains. We have also got general guidelines for the whole population that are clear around civility, bringing the bbc into disrepute. But we have had a particular challenge, and we have had our challenges, around this group of people who are faces of the bbc and present our flagship programmes. Today, we have announced the guidance which we can talk about which clearly says there are some fixed parameters around political campaigning, criticising politicians, but also recognise, i think, realistically where we are in terms of their ability to talk about issues they care about. If you present strictly, you are on the flagship list, so too the antiques roadshow, the radio1 Breakfast Programme and Match Of The Day. In essence, if you happen to be the presenter of a well known sports programme, think carefully about your tweets when the football is on. David sillito, bbc news. More to come on bbc news. Hello there. Much of the sunshine we got to see today was quite hazy in nature, thanks to a mix of high cloud and wildfire smoke from North America that was blown all the way across the atlantic in the wake of storm agnes, which you can see here swinging away from our shores. There is, though, another Weather System now pushing in from the west, already bringing some of us some outbreaks of rain which will continue through the evening and into the night. Some of that rain will be pretty heavy. So as we head into the night, some pretty wet weather for a time in western scotland, drying up there in northern ireland. But the heaviest rain, i think, will be across parts of south wales, and then up into the midlands and lincolnshire. There could be enough rain in one or two locations, perhaps most especially in the south of wales, for some localised flooding and some travel disruption. And then that rain bands weakening all the while, pushing towards the southeast corner, where it is going to stay very mild. Further north and west, something cooler and fresher to take us into friday morning. So this Weather System mayjust take a little bit of time to clear from the southeast corner through tomorrow morning. High pressure to the south, low pressure to the north that brings a mix of weather fortunes. The further south you are, it should be mostly dry, not too many showers, plenty of sunshine. Further north, some sunshine, too, but more in the way of showers, particularly in the west of scotland, with gales possible in the far north. Certainly quite a windy day across scotland. Temperatures of 13 celsius in lerwick and 20 celsius in london. Now, friday night will be quite chilly as this ridge of High Pressure topples its way eastwards, but it doesnt last long. Here comes our next rain bearing Weather System for saturday. Some heavy bursts of rain pushing across northern ireland, fringing into parts of north wales, northwest england, and then up across scotland. Further south, well see some spells of sunshine. It may just start to feel a little warmer and a little more humid. Thats certainly a theme we will take with us into sunday. We could see highs of 23 celsius in the southeast corner, given enough sunshine. There will be a band of cloud and Showery Rain Draped somewhere across central, Southern England into wales. To the north of that sunshine and showers, 16 celsius the top temperature in glasgow. And then into next week, well, thoroughly mixed. Therell be more rain at times, itll often be quite breezy, but it mayjust turn a little warmer for a time in the south. This is bbc news.
