Us President Joe Biden spoke with the two women after their release on friday, telling them that their government will fully support them as they recover and heal. And Secretary Of State Antony Blinken said hes relieved the women have been released, but reminded reporters that many others are still being held. Theres still ten additional americans who remain unaccounted for in this conflict. We know that some of them are being held hostage by hamas, along with an estimated 200 other hostages held in gaza. They include men, women, young boys, young girls, elderly people from many nations. Every single one of them should be released. Our correspondent Barbara Plett usher brings us more from inside the State Department. The release of the hostages disrupted the day here at the State Department. We were sitting down for the Daily Briefing and then we were told that it would be delayed for two hours because of Breaking News. Now, they didnt say what the Breaking News was, but we knew what it was. And so when we returned to the briefing room, there was another delay and then Secretary Of State Antony Blinken came out to speak. And this was an important moment for him, because he has really been pressing for the release of the hostages during his recent trip to the region, engaging in Shuttle Diplomacy between israel and the arab states. He was pressing for this, especially in qatar, which has taken the lead in trying to negotiate the release of the hostages because it has relations with hamas. There is a hamas office in doha, so qatar has been working very hard on this. The Foreign Ministry there released a statement saying there had been days of continuous communication to get to this point with all parties, and saying that the qataris would continue talks with hamas and with the israelis to try to get the rest of the hostages released, and hopefully that would help to de escalate the situation. Hamas said that it was releasing these hostages for humanitarian reasons, but it also said that it was in talks with qatar and egypt to talk about releasing the rest of the civilian hostages if the Security Arrangements or if the Security Environment allowed and reports suggest that they were saying that if the air strikes would stop, this could be a possibility. Mr blinken was asked whether he saw this as a window of opportunity to follow up. He didnt really go there. He said that the us position was all hostages should be released immediately and unconditionally, and he said he would not take at Face Value Anything that hamas said. Many have expressed relief at the release of the hostages. Rabbi meir hecht knows both judith and Natalie Raanan personally. Judith prays every week in our congregation, for every sabbath, every holiday, and we miss her. And shes been a part of our congregation in such an important way, and as a family friend, someone who would come to our home every sabbath, parade around the house with our baby and bring over gifts for the children. Really, our hearts are filled with gratitude to almighty god for this miracle. And again, we continue to pray and ask everyone to pray for the release of the other 200 plus hostages in the hands of hamas terrorists. Live now to javed ali, a former white house Counter Terrorism official, now a professor at the university of michigans Gerald Ford School of public policy. Hejoins us now he joins us now from hejoins us now from michigan where it Hasjust Hejoins us now from michigan where it has just gone at midnight. Thank you so much for staying up late for us. Lots of expressions of belief there at these two hostages being released but as the Secretary Of State said, this is true of many. What ill be likely to see in the coming days about the potential release of other hostages . The potential release of other hostaues . , hostages . Nice to be with you this morning. Hostages . Nice to be with you this morning. As hostages . Nice to be with you this morning. As you hostages . Nice to be with you i this morning. As you mentioned and as other commentators on the clip that you showed, this is a significant achievement, but it is still unclear what will happen to the fate of the 200 other hostages that are being kept in gaza by hamas and will hamas continue to release hostages in small amounts like what we saw today . Is this a ploy to try to forestall what a lot of folks thought would be inevitable is really Ground Campaign . Will the Ground Campaign . Will the Ground Campaign not commence at all until all hostages are released . These are some of the factors that are in play right now but nobody knows for sure what is going to unfold over the coming days. What is going to unfold over the coming days. Involved in this relieved the coming days. Involved in this relieved negotiation the coming days. Involved in this relieved negotiation has| this relieved negotiation has been the red cross but also the government of qatar. What role has qatar played in this . Has qatar played in this . Qatar has qatar played in this . Qatar has played has qatar played in this . Qatar has played an has qatar played in this . Qatar has played an important has qatar played in this . Qatar has played an Important Role i has played an Important Role and in these Hostage Negotiations there are always multiple parties involved, at the state level or ngo level like the red cross because you want to try and get as many points of leverage as you can as a government who has got a national kidnapped or taken hostage overseas to get that person or those persons back so in this case you have the government of qatar where, as your reporting indicated before, the hamas officials reside in qatar, so that must have been an important channel if not directly indirectly for the united states, past communications to hamas officials through the qatari government and then have the other points of influence likely red cross and the egyptian government, so this was a multipronged, complex negotiation but this only resulted in the release of two americans. We still have several other americans amongst the other pool of up to 200. What will the state Department Planning now . Planning now . One would think the are planning now . One would think they are going planning now . One would think they are going to planning now . One would think they are going to continue planning now . One would think they are going to continue to i they are going to continue to work this work of they are going to continue to work of communication through the qatari government because hamas officials are in qatar but there are other foreign governments whose nationals are also part of this larger pool of hostages trying to do the same thing and may be working with the State Department to execute a similar programme. The Israeli Government obviously is calling a lot of the shots here to because the release would not have happened had they not consented to it as well, and there is still the question of what happens with the Ground Campaign and Prime Minister netanyahu s promise to destroy hamas because of the attacks two weeks ago. Is that completely off the table . Nobody knows how that is going to factor into these Hostage Negotiations. Negotiations. Tells us more about what negotiations. Tells us more about what this negotiations. Tells us more about what this Hostage Negotiations. Tells us more about what this Hostage Release means for the Israeli Government as it plans this potential Ground Invasion which it has been talking about now for over a week. I it has been talking about now for over a week. For over a week. I have been sa in for over a week. I have been saying that for over a week. I have been saying that there for over a week. I have been saying that there is for over a week. I have been saying that there is probably three Interlocking Objectives on the Israeli Military campaign. One is to kill or capture as many hamas fighters as they can and that is something Prime Minister netanyahu said from the beginning after the aftermath of the attacks. Number two is to destroy the infrastructure for terrorism that has enabled hamas to conduct attacks but iii factor that is probably complicated the ability to pursue objectives one and two is the hostages so while there are hostages in gaza it will be difficult for israel to go forward with this Ground Campaign and that at some point the Israeli Government makes the Israeli Government makes the decision that despite the fact that there still might be a significant number of hostages in gaza that they are going to move forward with this Ground Campaign and that could be days if not weeks from now. Great to get your insights. Thank you forjoining us. Turning to the humanitarian situation in gaza, and several trucks loaded with food, water and medicine are still stuck in egypt. The un Secretary General visited the rafah crossing on friday. He said aid should be moving in the next day or so. The bbc s Andrew Harding sent this report from al arish in northern egypt, close to the gaza border. High above the egyptian desert, a consignment of humanitarian aid on its way towards the besieged territory of gaza. This Military Plane from nearby jordan has brought medical equipment, including bandages and syringes. Theyjoin other supplies being off loaded here in egypt, just a few kilometres from the Border Crossing into gaza. And inside gaza today, more signs of growing hunger and desperation, people scrambling to buy a few remaining chickens in crowded cities that remain entirely cut off from the outside world. No wonder theres such pressure to get this aid in. This is an operation fraught with risk. The aim is to channel vast amounts of humanitarian aid into gaza through one narrow Border Crossing, amid continuing israeli air strikes, amid genuine israeli fears that this route could be used by their enemy hamas to smuggle in more weapons and amid the constant risk that, at any moment, an Israeli Ground offensive could put a stop to all of this. But first, the border itself needs to open a logjam of over 100 trucks packed with aid still stuck on the egyptian side as negotiations drag on. So when the United Nations Secretary General arrived at the border this afternoon, he did not hide his frustration. Behind these walls, we have 2 Million People that is suffering enormously, that has no water, no food, no medicine. Nearby, an angry crowd demanding the border be opened and the siege of gaza lifted. Andrew harding, bbc news, egypt. In Northern Israel at the border with lebanon, there have been regular exchanges of gunfire with the group hezbollah. It, like hamas, is designated a Terror Organisation by many western governments, including the uk and the us, and is backed by iran. The Israeli Military is now evacuating thousands more residents from the vicinity, this time from the city of kiryat shmona. Its the Largest Community forced to move out as concerns grow that the Israel Gaza Conflict could spread. Anna foster reports from Northern Israel. A threat so close you can see it. This hezbollah Observation Post is metres from an israeli town. And thats why even more of this border is now emptying out. Today, kiryat shmona, a community of 20,000. But leaving isnt easy. In the shelter, zehavit waits with a husband and three children. She has cancer, but since the war began all her medical appointments have been cancelled. Translation theyre evacuating today and i asked them to take i the sick people first. I know they evacuated others, but no one has reached out to me. The feeling is very scary. Thats why i want them to evacuate my family as soon as possible. Even underground, efrat doesnt feel her twins are safe. She says the law bans locking the door of these public shelters and she fears another massacre, like the one in the south. This is israels defence. Thousands of soldiers digging in as the people move out. This is whats been happening all the way along the border. Fields turned into Forward Operating bases, Artillery Shells are being prepared, armoured vehicles are being readied. Israel has been doing as much as it can to strengthen and fortify this border. These Reserve Forces know that everything is different now. Not my first war, and i have never have seen such massive amounts of of units, all across israel, trained on scales weve never seen before at least not in my lifetime. These are some of israels darkest moments, and here, they hope there arent even harder days to come. Anna foster, bbc news, on the israel lebanon border. Egypt will host an International Conference later to discuss the war. The cairo peace summit will bring together several arab and european Heads Of State and government, alongside foreign ministers. The un Secretary General, antonio guterres, is expected to meet egypts president , Abdel Fattah Al sisi, and other egyptian officials. The president of the Palestinian Authority, mahmoud abbas, says hell also be there. Other attendees include South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and the uk foreign secretary, james cleverly. In sydney, around 10,000 people are expected to take part in a pro palestinian rally today. Many more are also expected to attend similar events in perth, hobart and brisbane. Previous demonstrations have been met with a heavy Police Presence after videos emerged of a group Chanting Anti Jewish Slogans at last weeks rally. We can now speak to our correspondent phil mercer, who is in sydney. What are we expecting today . Well, on the streets of sydney and the cbd, the Central Business district, there is rage, fear and uncertainty. Thousands of people have turned out to show solidarity with the palestinian people. There is, as you indicated, a very heavy Police Presence. This rally was only authorised by State Authorities here in New South Wales on friday. And organisers of the rally are urging those in attendance to show discipline, saying that anti semitic, anti jewish chants and the burning of flags will not be tolerated. And clearly the conflict in the middle east is reverberating all around the world. Cities in many countries are witnessing the scenes that we are seeing here in sydney today. Thousands of people showing solidarity and, as you say, other pro palestinian events are planned today for the cities of perth, hobart and brisbane. Tomorrow, sunday, similar events in the australian cities of melbourne and adelaide. So certainly this is a conflict affecting many, many communities. We have in the last couple of weeks seen a very large demonstration here in sydney, Organised Byjewish Groups and supporters of israel. So this is clearly, although a very long way away in the middle east, clearly a conflict that is affecting many, many people here in australia. This many, many people here in australia. Many, many people here in australia. As you say, a long way away australia. As you say, a long way away from australia. As you say, a long way away from the australia. As you say, a long way away from the middle i australia. As you say, a long i way away from the middle east where you are. Can you give us a sense of the make up of these groups and the communities in australia that resonate with what is happening in israel and the Palestinian Territories . I think, for example, the pro palestinian rallies that we have seen here in australia have seen
