There were a couple of standIng ovatIons, partIcularly when she announced a new covId corruptIon commIssIon, as she called It, to look at the publIc money that was spent durIng the pandemIc. There was also another announcement when the chancellor saId they would begIn to roll out Breakfast Clubs for schools, somethIng they promIsed In the Run Up to the ElectIon And SomethIng that Is now goIng to get under way. When you talk to people, the sense from people comIng out of the sense from people comIng out of the hall Is that they were glad there was more of a hopeful message from the chancellor. Of course, the detaIl when It comes to publIc spendIng and taxes, we wIll get In the budget at The End of october. For now, she wIll hope her message landed well at conference. Apparently, Government SpendIng Is goIng to outpace InflatIon over the next few years, but there are some areas whIch we know are protected lIke health and schools. Take those away and If you take Into Account PrIce rIses and populatIon growth, other departments may not see theIr money go so far. The lIkes of HIgher EducatIon and justIce. So agaIn, we waIt to hear how those detaIls are goIng to be fIlled out at the tIme of the budget. WhIle there are not meant to be taxes on workIng people, the chancellor saId, that Is a narrow group of rates, natIonal Insurance rates and vat. Theres lot she can do and many wIll feel the paIn of that. We wIll have to waItjust over another month to fInd out the detaIls, but there could be more cash In one area, Investment the lIkes of buIldIngs and projects. Those are part of longer term plans to delIver more growth than they could potentIally be welcomed by economIsts. They could delIver more gaIns, but they may take tIme to delIver.
