The Middle East is on edge. And tensions could not be higher, with israel expected to launch a significant retaliatory attack on iran any day. As chandler bing, he was known as the funny one from friends. But in real life, the actor Matthew Perry had made no secret of his long battle with addiction to drugs and alcohol, and had been undergoing a type of Ketamine Therapy for depression. He was found dead in his jacuzzi last year at his la home, with a high concentration of the substance in his blood. Now, a doctor called Mark Chavez, who prosecutors say was part of a group of people who were exploiting the actor, has pleaded guilty of conspiring to distribute ketamine. Mark entered his plea of guilty and thats now public record. So you can all access that if you want to. But thats what happened, he accepts responsibility and then we set sentencing. Chavez admitted to obtaining the drug from his former clinic using a fake prescription and from a medical wholesaler. Hes one of five people charged in connection with Matthew Perrys death, including another doctor, salvador plasencia, who allegedly provided the drug for the actor. Prosecutors say Matthew Perrys assistant worked with the two doctors to provide the actor with more than 50,000 of ketamine in the weeks before his death. The two doctors had joked about how much money they could make from mr perry, writing in text messages, i wonder how much this moron will pay. Chavez will be sentenced next year and could face up to ten years in prison. Emma vardy, Bbc News, los angeles. Old graves could be reused, and closed Burial Grounds reopened to help manage a shortage in england and wales. Currently only some sites are allowed to reuse graves and it must be after at least 75 years, with permission from relatives of those buried. New proposals aim to bring the law Up To Date by seeking views from the public and experts, and allow any Burial Ground to reuse graves. Our correspondent Graham Satchell reports. Highgate cemetery, north london. Its the final Resting Place of some of the most significant writers, artists and thinkers like karl marx. But theres a problem. Theyre running out of space. Like a lot of cemeteries across the country, highgate is all but full. So the Law Commission is now examining a set of proposals to see what can be done to free up space. One idea is to reuse graves. Its something theyve been able to do here since 2022. It can only be done after 75 years and if the right permissions are obtained. If the Owner Objects to grave re use, it doesnt happen. And if relatives of the people who are buried in the grave object to reuse, it doesnt happen either. If the permissions are in place, a solemn process begins. I dig the grave down deeper and then reinter them at the bottom of the grave, and then the new burials would go on top. Right, so youre notjust throwing Away Bones or remains . Absolutely not, no. We would know where all the remains were, and ideally theyd be in their Original location, Just A Little Bit further underground. The Law Commission is now consulting on Whether Reusing Graves should be allowed across england and wales. Its also examining where crematoria can be built, where The Ashes Unclaimed by relatives can be scattered by funeral directors, and whether closed Burial Grounds could be reopened and graves reused. A lot of people like to visit the grave of a Loved One, and its something that they like to do regularly, perhaps on family occasions, and its a place to remember them after theyve died. And so to have a place of their choosing is something that can be really important to bereaved people. The Consultation Runs Untiljanuary next year. A disciplinary panel found former Pc Phil Hunter guilty of gross misconduct. But one of the women he targeted says she had to beg the met for help and, for years, officers did not believe her. If for some Reason Somebody i knew was the victim of a predatory officer, i would tell them not to report it. I would get them whatever help i could, but i would tell them not to report it. The met has apologised it took five years for her case to be heard, and says it now takes a very different approach to investigating officers who are accused of targetting women and girls. London s Night Czar Amy lam has announced she will stand down from her role at City Hall after eight years. Well, much more in the way of dry weather in the Forecast Today as a Ridge Of High Pressure builds. Therell be some decent spells of sunshine around, although there is still the chance of a few isolated showers being brought in on that north easterly breeze, most likely for essex into surrey, but elsewhere a lot of dry weather and temperatures this afternoon, well, reaching around 15 to 16 celsius and the winds will be much lighter than they have been in recent days, too. A Fine Evening to come. Any showers fade away. A dry night too, with Clear Skies, but there could be some patches of Mist And Fog forming by the early hours, and a fairly chilly night too, as temperatures dip down to around 6 to 9 celsius. So it means friday is another dry day with some spells of sunshine, some patches of cloud. Saturdays dry too, but looking ahead to the second part of the weekend, we have an area of low pressure arriving in, but it is bumping into High Pressure so there wont be that much rain. But there could be some outbreaks of rain Saturday Night into sunday as well for a time, but for saturday during the day at least, fine and dry with lots of sunshine. Thats it from me for now. Now ill pass you back to Naga And Charlie hello, this is breakfast with Charlie Stayt and naga munchetty. Returning now to our main story and the conflict in the Middle East. Israel has continued to strike lebanon overnight, with bbc journalists reporting a series of loud blasts in the centre of beirut. Lebanon s Health Ministry said at least five people were killed in the strike on a medical facility which is said to be affiliated with iran backed armed group hezbollah. It comes after lebanese officials said at least 46 people have been killed and 85 wounded in israeli strikes in the past 24 hours. Fears of an all out war have been heighted by escalations this week, which included a Ground Invasion by israel into lebanon, which the idf says killed eight of its soldiers. Officials in lebanon say around A Million people have now been displaced from their homes. British nationals have been urged to leave the country. Last night, a Charter Flight organised by the Uk Government left beirut. Our midlands correspondent, phil mackie, was at Birmingham International Airport as they landed. Safety at last. At 840pm, Last Night, the first special Charter Flight bringing british citizens out of lebanon landed at Birmingham International Airport. It had been a long day, beset by delays, but at last passengers could relax. Just arrived to Birmingham Airport from beirut. Feeling exhausted. To be honest, i dont really know what i am feeling, but im grateful to be back and safe. Weve had a really warm welcome here at the airport, which took me by surprise. This is what they left behind. This was on Tuesday Night in beirut. Getting out of the city has become increasingly difficult. Many airLines have cancelled their scheduled flights, and the planes that are still flying in and out have to contend with the plumes of smoke caused by rocket strikes. It had been an anxious wait at the airport for those whod managed to secure a seat. Born in manchester, samia has lived in lebanon for 30 years. Its crazy. Its so surreal. I couldnt take it anymore. It was really, really nerve wracking. And im very, very sad to go, but im coming back. The zaharadeen sisters knew it was time to leave, but hope they can go back soon. Leaving, even for a short while is, like, hurtful. Especially because, like, its my country. But i think because the situation is out of hand, i dont really have any other option. Were not going to be sure i when were going to be back, so were just going to stay hopeful |that its not going to be for long, | and were going to come back to our precious country. There can only be more flights like this, as long as its safe to fly in and out of beirut. And there are still an estimated 4,000 to 6000 british citizens in lebanon. Defence Secretaryjohn Healey has been in cyprus meeting the forces preparing for a potential large Scale Evacuation by a different route. Until then, its hoped more flights like this will make it out. Phil mackie, Bbc News birmingham. The body which reviews potential Miscarriages Ofjustice is being asked to look again at the case of a Sub Postmaster whos Serving Life In Prison for murdering his wife. Robin garbutt was convicted in 2011 but has always protested his innocence. Evidence from the Horizon It System helped convict him but now his lawyers say new evidence has emerged about the faulty computer system, along with information from the Post Office inquiry, and his case should be sent back to the Court Of Appeal. Theyve made a fresh application to the criminal cases review commission. Our business correspondent, emma simpson, reports. A murder at the Post Office in a quiet yorkshire village. Diana garbett had been beaten to death with a Metal Bar in the Upstairs Flat she shared with her husband, robin. He always maintained she was killed by an Armed Robber who had broken in and forced him to hand over the cash from their Post Office safe. He said, dont do anything stupid. Weve got your wife. But the jury didnt believe him. The prosecution said hed faked the robbery. Hed been stealing money from the Post Office, then killed his wife to cover it up. Today, theres no Post Office or shop. It never reopened. The biggest thing that ever happened here was maybe a bike got stolen or something like that. To have a murder in your village . Absolutely unheard of. Barry and vanessa were close friends with Robin And Diana. I still believe that he didnt do it, you know. I think you have to know Robin And Di to knowju5t how close and what sort of people they were. Never stop believing. And i wont stop believing till hes out. We tried contacting Dianas Mother but were unable to reach her. However, in an interview earlier this year, she made it clear she believes her son in law is guilty. Over the years, Robin Garuett has tried three times to get his case referred back to the Court Of Appeal as new information has been uncovered. They all failed, but his lawyers say the Post Office inquiries now cast a new light on his conviction. Theft was the key motive. Two Post Office investigators testified against him relying on Horizon Computer data. They said the amount of cash that he was holding at his branch was suspicious and indicative of fraud. Garbutt s lawyers are now arguing that none of the key Post Office evidence in his case can now be trusted because of whats emerged about the organisations widespread failings. The former Post Office minister, kevin hollinrake, is supporting the review. He went to the same school as garbutt but told me thats not why hes got involved. I cant speculate whether Robin Garbutt is guilty or innocent, but i think we all want to make sure people, when they go through the justice system, get a fair hearing. And thats what were keen to ensure. Because of my experience of the Post Office in terms of the wider scandal, but also the the culture that existed within the Post Office at that time, i think we just want to make sure that its properly considered. A complex case thats now back in the spotlight. I think this is the final roll of the dice, really. You know, hes fought long and hard and were all, you know, really hoping that this will be the one that gives him a breakthrough. Now with sort of the impetus of the Post Office scandal and the information thats now coming forward from that, i think thats sort of hopefully adds a little bit of weight to what robin always said, that he wasnt, you know, 5tealing money from the Post Office, which was one of the accusations. Dianas mother has accused Garbutt Ofjumping on the horizon bandwagon, but his supporters say he never had a fair trial, and its time for a wider look at his case. Emma simpson, Bbc News, melsonby. Good morning. Overthe next few days will be mainly dry with some sunny spells and we do have a Weather Front coming in from the west that will throw in a bit more cloud but High Pressure is firmly in charge of the weather and we have some fog across parts of scotland and also Northern England and that will take its time to clear that when it does, a lot of Blue Sky to start the day. Not as windy as it has been in the South East in recent days with this north easterly nagging breeze that has more or less gone and we have temperatures between 13 and 16 degrees. Through the evening and overnight, under Clear Skies will be a Cool Night with Mist And Fog for across england and wales but the breezes picking up towards the west and as the Weather Front makes more inroads, bringing in cloud and Patchy Light Rain across Northern Ireland and Western Scotland. Temperature wise, in some rural areas the temperatures could fall close to freezing, so some of us could wake up to A Touch Of Frost but in towns and cities, these are the temperatures, between four and 7 degrees generally. As we head into friday, the High Pressure starts to edge a bit further east and that allows the Weather Fronts to make a bit more inroads in from the west so when we lose the Mist And Fog on friday morning, it is going to be dry, sunny for most and the Weather Front pushing and will bring more cloud into much of scotland through the day and Northern Ireland and we will see the patchy rain in the west. Temperatures between 13 and possibly 18 degrees. And as we move beyond that, friday and into the weekend, the first Weather Front clears and we have a more potent one coming which is connected to an area of low pressure that will dominate the weather so we start on saturday with a lot of dry conditions and some sunshine but then Heavy Rain pushes in across Northern Ireland and Western Scotland, and through the day that will get into parts of wales and south west england. There hasnt been a lot of Television Production here, and certainly not to the scale of this sort of production. So as much as we can do in terms of exteriors, using jersey, all the beautiful bays, all the wonderful locations and scenery, absolutely. There will be an element of work being done in the uk simply because we cant do that here, but it will be a jersey show. Jim bergerac first appeared in 1981. Take away jersey, Properjersey Out of the equation, the Film Equation and youre left with not very much. Youre left with an ordinary cop show. What made bergerac special . Apart, of course, my wonderful performance. I always used to think that people got bored with my performance. They might very well do. They could look over my shoulder and enjoy the sights ofjersey. I grew up with bergerac, so yes, i was a big John Nettles fan. I rememberthe sun, the scenery, the car, lots of driving and wonderful big houses. Its got a lot of references to bergerac, the Original. But i think its reinventing it as well. Its bringing it very Up To Date. Shall i give you my interpretation of whats going on here . Up to date means a neinm bergerac. Damien moloney s screen credits include Ripper Street and suspects. Alongside him Zoe Wanamaker as charlie hungerford, this time bergerac s mother in law, and philip glenister, aka Dci Gene Hunt in the Series Life on mars. Jersey born actors will also be among bergerac s supporting cast. The framework of the story is the same in terms of its about bergerac, its about him coming back to the force and, you know, getting back into investigating crimes. So thats the same. Its still going to have that sort of glamour that i think, you know, we remember and have fond memories of in the Original, but its going to be grittier stories, probably a bit darker. 1,000 People Queued for parts as extras this time round. But what about the man who was bergerac to millions . Did he get a call . I got a lovely letter from them and they said, well, would you come along and do a little cameo at the end and so on . And i thought, no, because that would get in the way of the actual production. It would destroy, in some sense the integrity of the production, i thought. And in any case, im too old and im retired and ive got to face up to that. The cast and writers of the reboot know they have a tough act to follow. The met has apologised it took five years for her case to be heard and says it now takes a very different approach these investigations. Severe delays on the overground between new Cross Gate and West Croydon due to a faulty track. Now onto the weather with kawser. Hello there. Good morning. Ill see you in half an hour. Good morning, welcome to breakfast with Charlie Stayt and naga munchetty. Our headLines today. President Biden Has warned israel against attacking iranian nuclear sites. On tuesday, iran fired 180 missiles across large parts of israel, in response to the israeli military s Ground Invasion of southern lebanon. The conflict has continued to escalate overnight. Lebanons Health Ministry says five people have been killed in a strike on a medicalfacility in beirut. The israeli military confirmed it had carried out a Precision Attack on a building said to be affiliated with the iran backed armed group hezbollah. Our Correspondent Peter bowes has the latest. More explosions ring out overnight in lebanon. The Israeli Army says it conducted a precise attack on bachoura in central beirut. The first raid in the heart of lebanons capital. Lebanese officials say at least five people were killed and 11 injured in this israeli strike on a medical facility, a building affiliated with hezbollah. Earlier, the lebanese Health Ministry confirmed at least 46 people have been killed in israeli strikes in the previous 24 hours. And overnight, the us government has confirmed that an american man, 56 year old kamal ahmad jawad, is among those who died. Irans unprecedented response, that barrage of missiles fired into israel On Tuesday has escalated this crisis just days before the first anniversary of the hamas attacks last year on october the 7th. President biden says G7 Leaders are planning to coordinate new sanctions and other measures to respond to irans Actions. But he did not support israel striking irans nuclear sites. The answer is no. And i think theres things well be discussing with the israelis, what theyre going to do, but all seven of us agree that they have a right to respond, but they should respond proportionately. The Middle East is on edge and tensions could not be higher, with israel expected to launch a significant retaliatory attack on iran any day. The Uss Commitment to israels security, according to the white house, remains ironclad, but the overwhelming concern is that conflicts on several fronts could soon erupt into a regional war. We are told to the decision was made that they would respond forcefully, but also discuss things with their closest ally the us about what exactly they should go after in terms of strategic sites inside iran. The message coming from President Biden was that irans nuclear sites, talked about a lot in the israeli media, are off limits. The key word from him is that israel should respond proportionally. We know that there have been diplomats in the us Talking To European counterparts, David Lammy one of those talks to buy the us secretary of state. The number of long running complaints about Water Companies in england and wales has risen to the highest level in almost a decade, mainly relating to spills from Storm Overflows and wider pollution of rivers and seas. Our cost of living correspondent, Colletta Smith has more on this. Good morning, everyone. Nearlya quarter of A Million people made complaint in england and wales over the last financial year about their Water Companies, whether that was the freshwater we receive all the Waste Water taking away from our homes. For most people the same company can place supplies both. The majority of the complaints were around the issue of billing, the incorrect bill issued or affordability. Water bills are a significant bill, that arrives at all of our homes, not necessarily the most expect utility but significant and it has gone up in recent years. Many people struggling to afford those bills over the last year or so. The number of complaints that the Consumer Council for water has received the final stage of the process. Uk water who represent the industry say most of those issues have been resolved at that stage, very few are referred on for mediation beyond that stage. They say as companies that they are working with a Consumer Watchdog to improve service for consumers and make sure Thoseissues Service for consumers and make sure those issues are resolved faster. The difficulty is, the price that we pay as customers, as i say, has been increasing. Customers are reasonably frustrated to be paying higher bills for what many are seeing is poor service. Old graves could be reused, and closed Burial Grounds reopened to help manage a shortage of plots in england and wales. Graves could be reused 75 years after the last burial if the family of the deceased doesnt object. Its also examining where crematoria can be built, whether ashes unclaimed by relatives can be scattered by funeral directors, and whether closed Burial Grounds could be reopened and graves reused. A lot of people like to visit the grave of a Loved One, and its something that they like to do regularly, perhaps on family occasions, and its a place to remember them after theyve died. And so to have a place of their choosing is something that can be really important to bereaved people. The Consultation Runs Untiljanuary next year. And then, a tip off. Another tutor, an advert on a site called super prof. We cant name him for legal reasons. He left his school last year charged with sexual assault. Hes barred from having any contact with children. The advert, though, is still live. Hello there. Sorry to bother you today. Ijust wonder, are you still offering private tutoring services . He told me hed stopped tutoring, but no one seems to be checking. You and i were like, what . That cant you and i were like, what . That cant be you and i were like, what . That cant be true. It exists in the context of no regulation and some of these Agencies Regulation and some of these agencies do demand Dbs Checks, and in effect agencies do demand Dbs Checks, and in effect some are aggregators, and they take in effect some are aggregators, and they take information on the platform and you can look at the information and they can say we are not responsible for those. The vast majority of tutors are very professional and completely safe but there are professional and completely safe but there are one or two obvious things that safeguarding charities say you can do that safeguarding charities say you can do and that safeguarding charities say you can do and one of those is demand a Dbs Check, can do and one of those is demand a Dbs Check, and if you havent got one, Dbs Check, and if you havent got one. Why Dbs Check, and if you havent got one, why havent you got one . Look through one, why havent you got one . Look through their one, why havent you got one . Do you go to your avenue do you take . Do you go to your local avenue do you take . Do you go to your local authority or sign up to an agency your local authority or sign up to an agency that costs money . There is an agency that costs money . There is a fundamental problem there but people a fundamental problem there but people have a ready solution in the tutors people have a ready solution in the Tutors Association said it would process Tutors Association said it would process the checks and it might cost as little process the checks and it might cost as little as process the checks and it might cost as little as £15 to do so. That is| the thing you hear from parents as little as £15 to do so. That is the thing you hear from parents who are funding tutoring for their children, and it costs so much money that when they look for a tutor, money is going to become a factor, so maybe the ones without the Dbs Check who havent had to pay or you dont have to go through an agency, they are the ones parents fall upon. Or it is one that parents hear about at the or it is one that parents hear about at the School Gate or hear about on the grapevine. That person is very good the grapevine. It was a night to live long in the memory for Aston Villa fans, as their side beat the mighty Bayern Munich 1 0 in the Champions League it was a throw back, to the early 1980s. When villa famously, when villa famously, also beat bayern in the European Cup also beat bayern in the European Cup final, in 1982 at a time final, in 1982 at a time when the band Duran Duran, when the band Duran Duran, were big in birmingham, were big in birmingham, and Last Night, it was substitute, and Last Night, it was substitute, Jhon Duran, the super sub, Jhon Duran, the super sub, who showed a great reflex, who showed a great reflex, to spot the Bayern Keeper to spot the Bayern Keeper off his Line, to send off his Line, to send Villa Park, into ecstasy deep Villa Park, into ecstasy deep into the second half. Into the second half. A historic victory for villa over a historic victory for villa over the six time champions. The six time champions. I am so, so happy they responded. I am so, so happy they responded. We are happy here we are happy here with our supporters. With our supporters. And of course we are trying and of course we are trying to transmit our energy, our game to transmit our energy, our game plan, connecting with them. Plan, connecting with them. Because if they are connecting because if they are connecting with us, transmitting with us, transmitting the push, their energy to us the push, their energy to us on the field, i think on the field, i think here we can feel very strong. Here we can feel very strong. A poor start to the season. Any Worries Liverpool fans had any Worries Liverpool fans had about replacing jurgen klopp, about replacing jurgen klopp, have completely disappeared have completely disappeared as their side, made it 2 wins as their side, made it 2 wins from 2, in this new League Phase, from 2, in this new League Phase, of the competition, with a 2 0 win of the competition, with a 2 0 win of over bologna. Of over bologna. Mo Salahs Goal late On Sealed the three points in arne slots, first European Match in charge at anfield and continues the dutchmans fine start, hes now won 8, of his first 9 matches. Its the kind of form Manchester United Manager erik ten hag can only dream about after like the World Cup, which you never got to do before. So hopefully that can get more people involved and just grow the game further. Now yesterday john featured the ground breaking story of tns, the first welsh League Side to play in the main Group Stage of a european competition. Well, today we are going across the Irish Sea to larne. About 20 miles north of belfast. A town with a population of less than 20,000, but tonight they will be the first team from Northern Ireland, to compete in a Group Stage of the current main european competitions, as they go to molde in norway in their opening match, in the europa Conference League. Yet just six years ago they were facing potential extinction. Solve been to larne to find out more. There was a time when larne and its Football Club were all at sea, all washed up on the East Coast of Northern Ireland. All the lads and lasses smiles upon their faces, but. But not any more. The clubs fans are now going to be heard across europe, singing a new tune as the club becomes the first team from Northern Ireland to compete in the main Group Stages of the current european competitions. 0h, unbelievable. Unbelievable. Rags to riches. You couldnt make it up. You go from like, crowds of 30, 50 people to 2000, 3000. Its mad like. I must have stood and cried for about ten minutes. Really . Just really emotional. We definitely transformed the town. We transformed the people of the town. | there would have been a bit of a running joke locally within Northern Ireland that the best thing about larne was perhaps the road out of it or the ferry out of it, but now weve seen a real shift | in that, and weve actually got| people that are very, i very proud to tell that theyre from larne. And immediately then theres that association with the football. Fans are in disbelief because of where the club was just six years ago. With the ground closed by the council due to Health And Safety concerns, with the team the lowest of the low in the Northern Irish Leagues and facing potential oblivion. Saw some real hard times. Some real, real hard times. Like looking in your purse and pulling out £37 to help pay a referee. It was so bad, that years ago, the supporters had to go early to pick up the team, to actually take them to matches, and on occasions theyjust about made the matches because most of us were drunk before we even seen them. But things have moved on. Every day was a struggle just to keep the club going, and then all of a sudden this guy appears from nowhere. That bloke was Kenny Bruce, a local lad who moved away and became hugely successful in an onLine property business. So much so that when he then sold the company, he could invest in his beloved hometowns Football Club, rebuilding the ground and turn the team professional. I had the most privileged childhood growing up in larne, and i suppose that humble beginning allowed me to, i suppose, stay grounded within my Business Life and be able to help grow a team and develop a team. And i suppose that that sort of upbringing just is something that stayed with me forever. And to try and give something back has been so rewarding. Its probably the greatest achievement of my life outside my family. Theyve done it. Larnes European Adventure goes on. And whats unusual about this Football Fairy Tale is that the club has stuck with the same manager. From those desperate days of Doom And Gloom to European Glory. I dont think im going to sit here and talk about myself. Im sure theres A Million managers out there that had they been given more time, it wasnt a quick fix. It was never going to be a quick fix. As we talk about a lot, there was always going to be a process. Its not just the Football Club thats been transformed. The whole Town And Community has been rejuvenated by this clubs success. Youve got flags and scarves hanging in so many shop windows, you get a feeling that the whole place is united by a new sense of belief and pride, and just all singing from the same song sheet. Were all going on a european tour, a european tour, a european tour. Money from Kenny Bruce has also helped a Music Business in the town expand, so it now writes songs for the club and gets youngsters from the community involved with the band and football. The success has been everything, i think locally for our town, its inspired so many things to happen in the town. Every round that they do, weve written a new song. In terms of lyrics, to support them. And then you hear them singing in the stands. And then the outreach of that, the kids and the students and elderly people that come here for choir and stuff. Its really inspired them to go and watch football and help them in maybe confidence wise and the community. Businesses right across the town are feeling the profits. So much so that the Football Club and its rags to Riches Story are now becoming a tourist attrAction. When the tourists arrive, they come in here for information, usually about routes, campsites and eating places. And now were finding theyre asking, and what about the Football Team . I have a lot of friends in scotland that now know where larne is. L they never knew where larne is before. Due to uefa regulations, larne will have to play their home European League matches at Northern Irelands national stadium at windsor park. And everywhere that mary went, the lamb was sure to go. Room for all its new fans and a town that has found its voice again as it sets off on its European Adventure. For the larne boys who never give a damn. And everywhere that mary went, the lamb was sure to go. Thank you, carol, see you later on. A man who slept rough in edinburgh, spent time in prison and was addicted to drugs has become a Tour Guide in the city. Sunny shows visitors around after he trained for the job with a social enterprise. The tour includes all the key sights but he also gives tourists a peek into a world most dont see. I know the ins and outs everywhere. When youre homeless that you get to know all these places as well. So obviously people, tourists just see the City Centre and all the tourist spots, but edinburghs got a kind of underbelly, shall we say. Yeah. My name is sunny murray. Im a Tour Guide, a walking Tour Guide here in edinburgh for invisible cities. My tour is all about crime and punishment. I show them the old prisons, old gallows and stuff. But i also like to show other wee but i also like to show other wee social enterprises, wee charities social enterprises, wee charities and projects that help homeless and projects that help homeless people and vulnerable people. When i was homeless myself, people and vulnerable people. I used to come here and they open up and they feed the homeless up and they feed the homeless like twice a week, basically. Like twice a week, basically. I used to show people about i used to show people about and stuff, and people would give me and stuff, and people would give me like a tenner and stuff, like a tenner and stuff, showing them the train showing them the train station, helping them station, helping them with their suitcases. With their suitcases. I was kind of like an i was kind of like an unofficial Tour Guide. Unofficial Tour Guide. The last hostel was over there, the last hostel was over there, and see that yellow and see that yellow building over there . Building over there . Thats called stjohns hall. We provide people with an opportunity to grow confidence but also accessjobs. But also accessjobs. The appeal is to know that the tour youre going on will have a positive impact on the community youre impact on the community youre visiting, because a walking visiting, because a Walking Tour may be something you will do tour may be something you will do on any of your trips, on any of your trips, so you might as well so you might as well do it and pay so the money do it and pay so the money is used for a good cause. Is used for a good cause. I try to make it like going out with a friend on a walk. People, they ask me questions and im an open book, basically, as i say. So i come here every day, and this is the only place in edinburgh where homeless people can come and have a shower and wash their clothes, and that. Obviously ive still got problems like everybody else, but definitely compared to being in the streets and having nowhere to go and addicted to drugs and stuff, its definitely been some turnaround. Some people need a chance. Is used for a Gc Vaping e. Is used for a Gc Vaping was always thought. Is used for a Gc Vaping was always thought. Or is used for a Gc Vaping was always thought, orthis is used for a Gc Vaping was always thought, or this is what i thought it was being pitched as, not an alternative to cigarettes but a way of giving up tobacco cigarettes. Correct. That has completely changed now. Why do you think you have seen this uptake of people who vape, who never smoked tobacco . Never smoked tobacco . Theres robabl never smoked tobacco . Theres probably a never smoked tobacco . Theres probably a few never smoked tobacco . Theres probably a few reasons never smoked tobacco . Theres probably a few reasons behind i never smoked tobacco . Theres i probably a few reasons behind this. This research surveyed around 150,000 this research surveyed around 150,000 adults on a monthly basis and from 150,000 adults on a monthly basis and from 2016 up to 2024. And prior to 2021, and from 2016 up to 2024. And prior to 2021, the and from 2016 up to 2024. And prior to 2021, the prevalence of adults that were to 2021, the prevalence of adults that were vaping, who had never smoked that were vaping, who had never smoked that were vaping, who had never smoked smoked before, it was 0. 3 and now smoked smoked before, it was 0. 3 and now since smoked smoked before, it was 0. 3 and now since 2021 that is an increase and now since 2021 that is an increase to 3. 5 and if you translate increase to 3. 5 and if you translate that across the country with a translate that across the country with a figure of A Million people that have with a figure of A Million people that have never regularly smoked are now vaping that have never regularly smoked are now vaping. As you say, that seems to be now vaping. As you say, that seems to be in now vaping. As you say, that seems to be in the now vaping. As you say, that seems to be in the Age Group of 18 up to 24, to be in the Age Group of 18 up to 24. But to be in the Age Group of 18 up to 24, but what is important to say is data from 24, but what is important to say is data from the office for national statistics have shown that that Age Group statistics have shown that that Age Group have seen the biggest drop in Smoking Group have seen the biggest drop in Smoking Prevalence. So its likely that vaping is displacing some smoking that vaping is displacing some smoking which is a positive Population Health Thing and a reduction in risk but that cannot be the whole reduction in risk but that cannot be the whole story. There must be an increasing the whole story. There must be an increasing Appeal And Accessibility of vaping increasing Appeal And Accessibility of vaping to young people, and 2021 was around of vaping to young people, and 2021 was around the time when disposable capes was around the time when disposable capes flooded the market and disposable capes make vaping more accessible disposable capes make vaping more accessible and appealing. These disposable vapes often use nicotine salts in disposable vapes often use nicotine salts in the liquid and can deliver higher salts in the liquid and can deliver higher concentration of nicotine in a more higher concentration of nicotine in a more tolerable way. And that, worryingly, could be creating more people worryingly, could be creating more people dependent on nicotine. Sol think people dependent on nicotine. Sol think this people dependent on nicotine. Sol think this data is a really powerful reminder think this data is a really powerful reminder that we need urgent Action. Hello, good morning, lets get your bbc London News now with me, Frankie Mccamley. A woman who was found to have been groomed by a sexually predatory Police Officer has told Bbc London she has no confidence in the met s promises to root out abusive behaviour. The met has apologised it took five years for her case to be heard and says it now takes a very different approach these investigations. Cheering. And we hear from the brothers who have run the length of britain in a quest to raise money to find a cure for early onset dementia. A rainy september drove shoppers away from the High Street and put a dampener on the profits at some of our biggest retailers. A of our biggest retailers. Chilly start to the day, mis fog a chilly start to the day, Mist And Fog especially across parts of scotland and Northern England, most of us having a dry day with lengthy sunny spells and just the Odd Shower possible. All of the details shortly. Its thursday the 3rd of october. Our main story. President Biden Has said he would not support an israeli attack on irans nuclear sites, in retaliation for the barrage of missiles launched by tehran. On tuesday, iran fired 180 missiles across large parts of israel, in response to the israeli military s Ground Invasion of southern lebanon. The conflict has continued to escalate overnight. Lebanons Health Ministry says six people have been killed in a strike on a medicalfacility in beirut. Lebanese officials say at least five people were killed and 11 injured earlier, the lebanese Health Ministry confirmed at least 46 people have been killed in israeli strikes in the previous 24 hours. And overnight, the us government has confirmed that an american man, 56 year old kamal ahmad jawad, is among those who died. The israeli military says eight of its soldiers were killed in the opening two days of its Ground Invasion of lebanon, and this latest strike overnight came hours after a united Nations Security Council meeting where israel warned it would retaliate if attacked. We will defend our people and our response will be swift and decisive. Those who attack us will face serious consequences. And i think theres things well be discussing with the israelis, what theyre going to do, but all seven of us agree that they have a right to respond, but they should respond proportionally. The Middle East is on edge and tensions could not be higher, with israel expected to launch a significant retaliatory attack on iran any day. The us s commitment to israels security, according to the white house, remains ironclad, but the overwhelming concern is that conflicts on several fronts could soon erupt into a regional war. Peter bowes, Bbc News. Werejoined now by our middle East Correspondent lina sinjab, whos in the lebanese capital beirut. Lina, good morning to you. What is happening where you are . The war is what is happening where you are . Lie war is getting what is happening where you are . Tue war is getting closer what is happening where you are . Tt2 war is getting closer and closer to the City Centre. We had yet another sleepless night here in beirut where the Air Strike was not in a Hezbollah Stronghold, but in an area just nearby, ten minutes walk from where i live. It is close even to parliament. We still dont know who was the target, israel says that they had a targeted strike in beirut. The Death Toll so far is six people killed in that location itself. These are the kind of targeted attacks that israelis are conducting, sending shock waves and fear waves among ordinary lebanese that have got nothing to do with hezbollah. Because the battle is not contained only in the south or even the southern suburbs of a route, the Dahieh Neighbourhood which is a Hezbollah Stronghold, but expanding to any location. People are so worried that they dont know when or where the next target will be, it could be in their building or their street. So everywhere is not safe for the lebanese these days. 2, for the lebanese these days. A terrifying situation. Thank you so much for letting us know what is happening. As fears of an all out war between Israel And Hezbollah grow in lebanon, british nationals have been urged to leave the country. Last night, a Charter Flight organised by the Uk Government left beirut. Our midlands correspondent, phil mackie, was at Birmingham International Airport as they landed. Safety at last. At 8. 40pm Last Night, the first special Charter Flight bringing british citizens out of lebanon landed at Birmingham International Airport. Phil mackie, Bbc News, birmingham. Eight minutes past eight is the time. Charlie, when the actor Matthew Perry died, there was intense scrutiny about how he died and what was behind, leading to his death which was related to drugs. Thats right, and what we now know is. A doctor in the us has pleaded guilty to a charge relating to the death of the actor, Matthew Perry. The Friends Star died last year after an overdose of the drug ketamine. Dr Mark Chavez admitted obtaining the drug fraudulently and conspiring to distribute it. Our la correspondent Emma Vardy reports, and a warning this contains flashing images. The research will speed up the diagnosis of more than 200 rare diseases, so that children can be treated earlier. 13 hospitals in england have begun offering the test. Our medical Editor Fergus Walsh reports. Just a day old. Amelia is among the first babies to have their entire Genetic Code sequenced to look for rare diseases. Her mum didnt hesitate when offered the test at birmingham womens hospital. It was a No Brainer because amelia will be tested for 200 different genetic conditions so she will benefit, but also will contribute to the wider research population, which will affect other children. Amelias blood sample, taken from her umbilical cord, is being sent to labs in cambridge, where her entire genetic Code Or Genome will be sequenced. Faulty genes in our dna can cause thousands of rare diseases, but only treatable conditions will be identified. The 200 conditions which have been selected for the Programme Cause substantial Health Problems early in childhood and the treatments and interventions which are available for all of these conditions can have a dramatic impact on that child. They can reduce the symptoms and in some cases they represent a cure. Im still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah this isjoshua two years ago, bright and active. And this is him now. Aged nine, joshua from surrey is no longer able to walk or talk. His condition, mld, is one of those which will now be screened for. His mum has clear advice to parents offered the test. Do not even hesitate. If you can save your childs life, that is more important than anything in this world and speaking as a parent who is losing their Child Day to day, please dont look back and take the opportunity to find out. Had Joshuas Condition been picked up at birth, he could potentially have been cured. Now the damage done is irreversible. Wheres joshy . Just got everyone wrapped around his Little Finger already. Back at hospital, gemma says she hasnt picked a name yet for her son, but he is part of the Screening Programme. All the babies involved in this study will be contacted again when they reach the age of 16, to see if they want to continue with the research. That could involve looking for other faulty genes, which later in life can increase your risk of getting certain cancers, Heart Disease or even dementia. That will raise ethical questions about what information should be shared. But for now, the focus is on the start of life and giving parents greater reassurance about their babys health. There are thousands of different genetic conditions and different genetic conditions and many of them are for children. Not all of them can be treated, but there are a growing number, like mld which can be. It is often very crucial to get them at the earliest stage of symptoms or before symptoms for the treatment to have an impact. The problem we have is that many rare conditions are just that, very rare, so most Health Care professionals will be finding it difficult to spot them. The family will undergo a lot of diagnosis tests often very evasive before they reach a diagnosis and at that point it is often too late for treatment to be given. 50 it is often too late for treatment to be given it is often too late for treatment to be given. Often that a genetic condition which people have from birth can be completely curable. That is the case for some conditions. And we are seeing more and more these gene therapies that can replace a faulty copy of the gene and those are incredibly promising and we hope we will see more of those. For many other conditions of fun the treatment can alleviate the symptoms of that condition but even that can be hugely helpful. Imufhg of that condition but even that can be hugely helpful. Be hugely helpful. Why only 200, surely there be hugely helpful. Why only 200, surely there are be hugely helpful. Why only 200, surely there are more be hugely helpful. Why only 200, | surely there are more conditions . There are many more, and if we look at all of our genetic sequence we could potentially find thousands of conditions. But we think it is really important in this study to focus on conditions that start early in childhood where there is a treatment that could be done, and where that can be done in the nhs, because we want is to provide that certainty and clear next step for that family in that situation. Flan t that family in that situation. Can i ask ou a that family in that situation. Can i ask you a fairly that family in that situation. Can i ask you a fairly obvious that family in that situation. Can i ask you a fairly obvious question . Someone might be watching this with a newborn baby, thinking, great, why would you not do that . Why is it just a trial . But it is new to use it in this context, where we are testing newborn babies shortly after birth before symptoms. There is still some research that we need to do to understand, if we find a genetic change at birth, that we understand exactly whether and how that child goes on to develop that condition and what it looks like. It means you can come with some uncertainties for families, we need to monitor how well those treatments and interventions have worked, and that is what we hope to do in the study is what we hope to do in the study is that we can provide evidence to the nhs, the government, to the national screening committee, to consider whether this could be adopted to every child is a part of newborn screening. Time now to get the news, Travel And Weather where you are. Hello, good morning. Lets get your bbc London News now with me, Frankie Mccamley. Two people have been taken to hospital overnight after a fire destroyed a flat in a seven Storey Building in barking. 60 firefighters were called to the block in Mizzen Street shortly before one oClock this morning. 50 people were also led to safety. A woman who was found to have been groomed by a predatory Police Officer has told Bbc London she has no confidence in the met s promises to root out abusive behaviour. A disciplinary panel found Pc Phil Hunter guilty of gross misconduct. But one of the women he targeted says she had to beg the met for help and, for years, officers did not believe her. If for some Reason Somebody i knew was the victim of a predatory officer, i would tell them not to report it. I would get them whatever help i could, but i would tell them not to report it. The met has apologised it took five years for her case to be heard, and says it now takes a very different approach these investigations. Head to our website lots more stories in the capital. Just Type Bbc London News into any search engine. Ill have your last Bbc London Morning Update around quarter past 9. Hello, this is breakfast with Charlie Stayt and naga munchetty. Weve been following the story of two brothers who are at risk of developing dementia in their 40s as they take on a Fundraising Challenge to run the entire length of britain. Jordan and cian adams both have a rare faulty gene, which can lead to fronto temporal dementia like their mum, aunt and grandmother. The brothers have now completed their challenge, and our Reporterjohn Maguire was there. Last day. How are we feeling . Tired. After running every one of the past 30 days, the Line'>Finish Line is finally in Sight Forjordan and cian adams. Or as they call themselves, the ftd brothers. One in three people born today will be affected by dementia and there is no known cure. So £150,000 in the pot without gift aid, all going towards valuable research. So, for a cure, thats what keeps us going. This was just a silly idea that clan texted me back injanuary, and its taken a hell of a lot of people, a hell of a lot of work to put it into practice. And here we are. So, yeah, theres all sorts of emotions this morning. Im sure itll all come out when we get to that that finish post. Both have been tested and know they carry the gene that caused their mum, geraldine, to die atjust 52 years old from a rare condition known as frontotemporal dementia. Other members of their family have also died with ftd. Their story is heartrending, but their message is getting through. Thats all i got £70, mate. Thats incredible. Thank you so much. Well done. What a fantastic achievement. Really appreciate it. Theyre running the final 12 of an almost 900 mile slog from John Ogroats to Lands End, an incredible feat and powered by Peanut Butter. Every morning they have Peanut Butter bagels and stuff like that. You know, Peanut Butter and jam, Peanut Butter and honey. Theyve battled through some of the wettest September Weather on record, supported by a team of family and friends. Their older sister, kennedy, was the first of the siblings to undergo the genetic testing. But she doesnt carry the ftd gene. Shesjoining the boys for the final leg. I havent done any training, but if they can run 900 miles, whats an extra ten for me . So, yeah. Made it here. Kennedy has led the way since you know, mum was ill in terms in also being almost been a second mother to me and cian looking after us and really guiding the way through the genetic Testing Process and having the bravery to do that in the first instance. Bodies battered but spirits high, they arrive at long last at Lands End together and elated. This is a family thats been through so much. Its been very difficult at times and weve pushed ourselves, but weve all gone in there as a family. Weve stuck together because mum showed us what love is. You know, its important in this moment, i think, to remember my mum, my aunty ann, many of my mums relatives who cant be here, but i know theyll be watching down. Im just so proud of kennedy. You know, my brother, dad, weve been through so much heartbreak. I think its hard to sometimes put it across how painful its been growing up. And then to come out the other side now, the support that weve had from people to run the entire length of the uk, to actually say weve done that and raised, you know, over £200,000 now since my diagnosis and obviously since cian getting diagnosed in 2023, its just incredible. And were not going to stop here. You know, weve got 15 years to, i firmly believe that even if it doesnt come for us, we can be a huge part in finding that cure. And thats what i want to be remembered for. Thats how i want cian to be remembered for. Notjust me and youre going through this. Its familial frontotemporal dementia. Its hereditary. Its written in our dna. Weve all been through this together, you know . Its three or four generations plus, and weve lost our mom to dementia and an aunty to dementia in their 50s. Me and jordan know weve got the same fate. And my sister, knowing that shes got the all clear. Thatsjust as bad, i think. Survivors guilt. So, you know, people laughed at us when we set a lifetime goal of £1 million towards a cure. And here we are a year later, over £200,000. So 20 of the way there. This isjust the beginning. Their charity says the boys are making a major difference. There is Future'>A Future for those of us living with dementia. Were not written off, and what we need to do is we need to keep fundraising for a cure. We can cure some cancers fiow. We can cure lung disease, i liver disease, Heart Diseases. We can cure brain diseases. But its going to take a lot of research and a lot of funding. And thats what were here for. This has been a race not just against the Clock and against the entire length of the uk, but a race against time. Its the race of their lives. Jon maguire, Bbc News. A Sub Postmaster who murdered his wife in 2011 is trying to make a new appeal against his life sentence, arguing that evidence from the Post Offices faulty it system helped to convict him. Robin garbutt has always denied killing his wife diana. His lawyers say new evidence has emerged about horizon, as well as other information at the Post Office inquiry. Her family say they believe he is guilty. Emma simpson reports. A murder at the Post Office in a quiet yorkshire village. Diana garbutt had been beaten to death with a Metal Bar in the Upstairs Flat she shared with her husband, robin. I still believe that he l didnt do it, you know. I think you have to know Robin And Di to knowjust how closei and what sort of people they were. Yeah, never stopped believing. And i wont stop i believing till hes out. We tried contacting Dianas Mother but were unable to reach her. However, in an interview earlier this year, she made it clear she believes her son in law is guilty. Over the years, Robin Garbutt has tried three times to get his case referred back to the Court Of Appeal as new information has been uncovered. Now with sort of the impetus of the Post Office scandal and the information thats now coming forward from that, i think that sort of hopefully adds a little bit of weight to what robin always said, that he wasnt, you know, stealing money from the Post Office, which was one of the accusations. Dianas mother has accused Garbutt Ofjumping on the horizon bandwagon, but his supporters say he never had a fair trial, and its time for a wider look at his case. Emma simpson, Bbc News, melsonby. Has the recent wet weather stopped you heading out to the shops . Yes, some counties in england experienced their wettest ever september last month. Some retailers have directly blamed the weather for a fall in their sales. The number of people visiting the High Street was down by lt. 5 percent in september compared to august. The decLine was less obvious in retail parks and Shopping Centres where you might be a bit more sheltered. Retailerjd sports which also owns millets and blacks said bad weather had reduced footfall across its group of stores and hampered sales of outdoor equipment like tents this year. And primark said challenging weather had compounded a 2 fall in sales in the 6 months to mid september. But shoppers who braved the rain have been rewarded with deflation at the checkout with retailers reportedly putting on extra offers and discounts to entice people back. Its the biggest drop in prices for three years. They will have looked at their trading they will have looked at their trading on their pattern of turnover over the trading on their pattern of turnover over the year and knowing september was going over the year and knowing september was going to be a bit quieter, but its hard was going to be a bit quieter, but its hard to was going to be a bit quieter, but its hard to plan our diverse weather its hard to plan our diverse weather and build it into a Business Model Weather and build it into a Business Model so weather and build it into a Business Model so they will have responded Guite Model so they will have responded quite quickly. What they need to do is make quite quickly. What they need to do is make the Shopping Environment as comfortable as possible and keep promoting themselves. I would never advise promoting themselves. I would never advise retailers to simply cut prices advise retailers to simply cut prices because its a heavy, clunky mechanism prices because its a heavy, clunky mechanism and it is very hard for Retailers Mechanism and it is very hard for retailers to mechanism and it is very hard for retailers to return to normal pricing retailers will be hoping for a respite in the rain, especially as we head towards those colder months. Thank you for your messages. Bernice got in touch to say i shop less in wet weather and if i need anything urgently i look onLine first. I cant be bothered to step out in puddles every time. Mikes perspective is interesting. He has run a cafe in paignton and any says the local business changes with not just weather but the forecast. In august we had several yellow weather warnings and as it turned out on one day, clearsky, warnings and as it turned out on one day, clear sky, little wind and the weather missed us but the damage was done and custom was down significantly. So as much as we can do in terms of exteriors, using jersey, all the beautiful bays, all the wonderful locations and scenery, absolutely. There will be an element of work being done in the uk simply because we cant do that here, but it will be a jersey show. Jim bergerac first appeared in 1981. A former alcoholic, Police Officer and later private investigator. The man who played him insists his Co Star was the island itself. Take awayjersey, Properjersey Out of the equation, the Film Equation and youre left with not very much. Youre left with an ordinary cop show. What made bergerac special . Apart, of course, my wonderful performance, was, i always used to think that people got bored with my performance. They might very well do. They could look over my shoulder and enjoy the sights ofjersey. I grew up with bergerac, so, yes, i was a big John Nettles fan. Alongside him, Zoe Wanamaker as charlie hungerford, this time bergerac s mother in law, and philip glenister, aka Dci Gene Hunt in the Series Life on mars. The lucky ones joined islanders who had already won a place on the crew. Im an assistant director trainee, but i usually do locations, so its quite nice to try a different department. I havent done any proper work here, so its a bit like my English Kind of working and then mixed with home and being around friends, seeing family, seeing people around. Its very weird. But what about the man who was bergerac to millions . Did he get a call . I got a lovely letter from them and they said, well, would you come along and do a little cameo at the end and so on . And i thought, no, because that would get in the way of the actual production. It would destroy, in some sense, the integrity of the production, i thought. And in any case, im too old and im retired and ive got to face up to that. The cast and writers of the reboot know they have a tough act to follow. Well have to wait a while yet, though, to decide whether jim bergerac has risen to this new challenge. Robert hall, Bbc News, jersey. And i seem to remember that people use to turn up injersey and go to the Police Station, asking to go to the Police Station, asking to go to the department for bergerac which was made up.
