The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has pulled up the Common Service Centre (CSC) for “substandard” work on operating and maintaining of the national fibre network under BharatNet, and sought a detailed report in two weeks. In a letter dated July 13 to CSC’s chief operating officer (COO) Abhishek Singh, the DoT and the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), which funds BharatNet, asked the executive to take "remedial action" on substandard workmanship of CSC-SPV field units. Common Service Centres (CSC) are physical facilities for delivering government's e-Services to rural and remote locations where availability of computers and Internet is negligible or mostly absent.
