PONCE INLET — While others ate bon-bons and binged on Netflix during this pandemic lock-down year, Lois Butterfield was moving ahead — one stride at a time — toward an ambitious 2020 fitness goal.
On Thursday, as the hours ticked away toward the new year, Butterfield, 64, crossed the finish line along the sandy shore of the Atlantic Ocean to reach her goal of walking and running 2,020 miles in 2020.
That feat is all the more impressive because Butterfield also happens to be totally blind, a condition that adds some obvious complications to going out for a jog.
Not for Butterfield, who has been blind since she was a toddler and has never let it interfere with anything she sets her mind on doing.
