MUMBAI: The BMC will roll out free vaccination for pregnant women from Thursday, even as private centres started on Wednesday by vaccinating eight women.
The public drive will initially start at 36 centres that routinely offer ante-natal care. Vaccination will be held for three hours on Thursday from 2pm to 5pm, said the BMC.
An estimated 1.5 lakh pregnant women will benefit from this. The corporation had started the vaccination of lactating mothers on May 19 following a go-ahead from the Centre. Additional municipal commissioner Suresh Kakani said that women will be given every information about the risks if they get infected with Covid-19 and the benefits of vaccination. The Centre has said that they can get vaccinated anytime during pregnancy, although the corporation has stated that women should make an informed choice about vaccination.
