Borchers’ contract extended a year Oakridger The Oak Ridge Board of Education unanimously voted Monday night to have Oak Ridge Schools Superintendent Bruce Borchers serve as superintendent for another year. School Board Chairman Keys Fillauer made the motion, and Vice Chairwoman Laura McLean and members Erin Webb and Ben Stephens all seconded at the same time. “I have found that the superintendent is always readily available to myself and to other board members,” Fillauer said at the meeting, adding he is “efficient” at providing information to the school board members. He gave as an example someone recently posting a photo on Facebook of firetrucks at Oak Ridge High School. Lauren Gray, city of Oak Ridge senior communications specialist, told The Oak Ridger that incident was a false alarm, involving steam from a dishwasher. She said the false alarm happened just before 6:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25.
