Updated: 1:22 PM EDT Jul 12, 2021 By Russ Reed A Massachusetts native who starred for the Boston College baseball team has been selected in the first round of the 2021 Major League Baseball draft.Sal Frelick, of Lexington, was drafted with the 15 overall pick by the Milwaukee Brewers Sunday night.Frelick, a left-handed hitter, batted .359 with 17 doubles, six home runs, two triples, 27 runs batted in and 50 runs scored as a junior during the 2021 season.The 21-year-old was an All-ACC First Team selection and one of 25 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award, which is presented to the top amateur baseball player in the country by USA Baseball.Frelick was lauded for his spectacular work in the outfield this year. He started 48 games in centerfield and was perfect in 127 chances with one outfield assist. He was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and earned an American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Gold Glove award, becoming the first Boston College player to earn the national honor.In three seasons at BC, Frelick hit .245 with 139 hits, including 27 doubles and 12 homers. He also had 97 runs scored, 63 RBI and 38 stolen bases in his collegiate career. He became the fastest Eagles player to 100 career hits, reaching the milestone in his 72nd collegiate game earlier this year.Frelick is a graduate of Lexington High School and was a three-sport star, earning multiple varsity letters in baseball, football and ice hockey.At 5-foot-9 and 175 pounds, Frelick is ranked as the 11th-best prospect among this year's crop of draft-eligible players, according to MLB.com.Frelick was also a featured player on Mike Lynch's High 5 series back in 2016:
