— 3 February 2021 Sir Geoffrey Boycott believes Joe Root has every chance of doubling up as he prepares to reach a “special” 100 Test cap milestone on Friday. Boycott has praised his fellow Yorkshireman’s career achievements to date, but insists the 30-year-old has so much more to give English Cricket. When he leads England out for the first Test of four against India in Chennai, Root will become the 15th England player to play 100 Tests or more. Sir Geoffrey is one of the previous 14 having played 108 Tests between 1964 and 1982, as are fellow knights Ian Botham, Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook. The latter leads the way with 161 appearances and leads the way from Root’s current team-mates Jimmy Anderson (157) and Stuart Broad (144).
