Breaux Bridge man arrested in connection with infant's death View Comments A Breaux Bridge man is facing charges after an infant was found dead in a car, according to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to a call about a suspicious car at about 2:30 p.m. near the Intracoastal Bridge on Highway 317, according to a release from the department. Deputies found an infant, who was dead, inside the car, sheriff's office spokesperson David Spencer said. Ervin Melancon, 53, was arrested Sunday night and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the child's death. He was booked into the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center where he is being held on a $2 million bond.
