The gregarious brewmaster with a salt-and-pepper beard wakes up at the crack of dawn, walks several miles across Tuscaloosa and then spends hours on end making beer, before most of us wake up. They say you can’t keep a good man down, but COVID-19 gave it a shot. “I do try to focus on the positive, but I’m a person,” said Hicks, 41. “There’s been scary times both for the health of some of our former regulars and my staff, trying to make sure they were taken care of.”
