This partnership between Buddy’s Pizza and the Detroit-based soup kitchen has been ongoing for 45 years. Buddy’s Pizza dedicates this one day each year as a fundraiser for Capuchin Soup Kitchen’s community programs. This fundraising effort began in 1976 when there was just one Buddy’s Pizza location at Six Mile and Conant, its original. More than four decades later Buddy’s has raised more than $3 million to benefit the organization's programs that help those in need. Previously, the event was Buddy’s “Slice for Life” fundraiser where people bought tickets that included all-you-can-eat pizza and salad. A portion of the ticket cost benefitted the Capuchin Soup Kitchen’s community program, according to a news release. The annual event did not take place in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
