Senior businesswomen are dismayed that Treasurer Josh Frydenberg did not use Tuesday’s “women’s budget” to extend the government paid parental leave scheme to give both parents equal access.

Female business leaders welcomed many of the steps taken by Mr Frydenberg to improve women’s financial health, safety and wellbeing, but they said more needed to be done to increase workforce participation, narrow the gender pay gap and lift older women out of poverty.
