Sir, The news item titled “Rs. 1.50 crore collected as fines every month” appearing in SOM dated Feb.21 is really disturbing. The Government of India, Government of Karnataka and Mysuru City Traffic Police are spending lakhs of rupees to educate the public about the traffic rules. But the fines collected indicate that the education has not percolated to the minds of the undisciplined vehicle owners. Though Mysuru City Traffic Police are in the forefront for organising various types of educative traffic awareness days and traffic awareness weeks, it is sad to note that motorists have miserably failed to respond to their sincere efforts.
