Former churchgoers became virtual worshippers.
The Rev. Joseph Ratliff, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church, said, “We can find a way to minister to the people, even when we’re not in the sanctuary.”
His church discontinued in-person services in March 2020 and did not resume them until June 2021. During that 15-month hiatus, Shiloh’s worship services were recorded and livestreamed and also sent out on YouTube. Deacons of the congregation kept in touch with parishioners, Ratliff said, and he sent out a pastoral letter about every two weeks.
The church also continued providing services to the community. “We’ve been a site for testing, for giving shots, for distributing personal protective gear,” Ratliff said. “Parishioners have done an exceptional job keeping themselves safe and others safe.”
