Canastota, N.Y. — Canastota schools is switching to remote learning Monday through the end of 2020 as the number of coronavirus cases and quarantines continue to swell, the district has announced.
“Our region is experiencing staggering increases in the numbers of COVID-19 positive cases and mandatory quarantines,” according to an alert on the Canastota Central School District website. “Given these circumstances, we anticipate continued unavoidable and unpredictable school building closures and disruptions to learning.”
School administrators also pointed to the increase in coronavirus cases in Madison County, which has delayed contact tracing, according to county officials. Because of the delays, the Madison County Health Department “is no longer able to respond quickly to positive cases and contact tracing that we rely upon to reopen our buildings safely and with confidence,” according to the school alert.
