Leominster Champion Even through COVID-19, the City of Leominster has continued to move forward with public works projects across the city, including at city schools. “We have continued our commitment to prioritizing road and sidewalk projects in every neighborhood,” said Mayor Dean Mazzarella. “For years our policy has been to fix the worst first. The Department of Public Works has done a great job every year analyzing and developing our priority list including input from residents and businesses.” Over the past decade, the city has also combined state funding with local funding to complete additional work. In 2016, the city received $2.5 million for downtown paving, sidewalks and underground infrastructure. In 2013, MassWorks also provided $1.3 million for a similar project on Adams Street. In 2017, Leominster received $400,000 through the state’s Complete Streets program, when combined with local funds, completed sidewalks for the Northwest School area.
