A spokesperson for Saskatoon Public Schools says these types of ceremonies take months to plan and cannot be thrown together quickly or easily, so their collegiates will have virtual graduation ceremonies. Each school will plan its own events, such as photo opportunities or diploma presentations that follow the provincial gathering restrictions. Officials at Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools say a large outdoor venue was considered, but it was decided to do the same as last year and host virtual ceremonies. The school division cites too many unknowns to plan a graduation in a stadium type venue, including the unpredictability of the weather. As well, a large space doesn’t change the number of people allowed for an outdoor event, so there would still have to be several events organized for schools with large graduating classes.
