Cattle smugglers open fire on BSF on Bangladesh border, injure one jawan


Kolkata: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was injured in a firing by cattle smugglers near the Indo-Bangladesh International Border in West Bengal. Officials said today, Thursday, that the incident took place at 8 pm on Wednesday (May 19) near Putiabaromsia border post in BSF in Behar district.
A BSF spokesperson said, the patrol found about 10 to 15 Indian cattle smugglers heading towards the border to meet Bangladeshi miscreants and carrying about 6 to 7 cattle. The spokesperson said, "BSF jawans reached the spot and asked the smugglers to stop and hurled a non-lethal weapon (Chile grenade) at Indian miscreants. ’
He further said, "However, the warning did not affect the miscreants and they fired four to five rounds at the BSF personnel. The spokesperson said that one of the soldiers was shot in the left ankle after which the patrolling team also fired a round, causing smugglers on both sides to flee. He said the injured jawan has been admitted to a local hospital and is in stable condition at present.
