Chairman of Wexford County Council Cllr Ger Carthy, says that the local authority may have to look into the possibility of putting security staff on graveyards around the county in the wake of another significant crowd at Crosstown Cemetery in direct breach of Covid restrictions last week. Upwards of 40 fines were issued last Wednesday after a crowd of between 80 and 100 people turned up to mark the traditional 'ninth day' since the passing of a popular member of the travelling community, who herself died of Covid-19. Last week's gathering at the graveyard came despite significant public anger of the scenes at the funeral of the same woman the week before, with over 200 people in attendance with no social distancing and few masks worn.
