Ceremony held to mark the start of the energy infrastructure demonstration operations in the Russian Far East December 24, 2020 NEDO, Takaoka Toko Co., Ltd., Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Komaihaltec Inc. have carried out an energy infrastructure demonstration project in Tiksi city of the Republic of Sakha in cooperation with the Government of the Sakha Republic of the Russian Federation, RusHydro, a Russian power company, and Sakhaenergo, a power company of the RusHydro group. Located in the Arctic Circle, an especially frigid region in the Russian Far East, the region relies on small-scale islanding electric grids for power supplies. In the demonstration project, in addition to the wind turbine generators in operation since 2018, diesel generators, storage batteries, and an energy management system were newly installed this year to build a “Polar Microgrid System” with the aim of achieving stable and efficient energy supplies in the region.
