A 39-year-old man was charged Tuesday with crimes that included involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence linked to a traffic crash that occurred early Saturday morning in southeast Topeka.
The driver was also charged with one count each of DUI and failure to maintain a lane of traffic, said Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay.
Kagay identified the driver as Cesar R. Carreto Orozco.
The charges are linked to a crash in which Topeka police said passenger Erasmo C. Ramirez Soto, 37, of Topeka, was killed about 3:30 a.m. Saturday near S.E. 29th and Adams.
Soto was riding in a Chevrolet Equinox driven by Carreto Orozco when it left the road and struck a business sign, Kagay said. Soto died at the scene.
