COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater firefighters had to take care of a deliberately set field fire which broke out early Wednesday morning on the south side of the city. Fire Chief Dave Schmaltz says someone set a bunch of railroad ties and some brush on fire in a gully about 200 yards west of South Clay Street and the railroad tracks. Firefighters were dispatched at about 2:10 a.m.. They finally cleared the scene at about 9:50 a.m.. Schmaltz expected the department to be dealing with the fire throughout the day as rekindling was expected.
