Bauer Hearst Illinois April 27, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail Semplowski GILLESPIE — A Gillespie man is facing reckless homicide and aggravated drunken driving charges after an accident Friday resulted in the death of a man. Gillespie Police said John M. Cooper, 69, of Gillespie was walking in the city Friday when he was hit by an all-terrain vehicle. A police officer arrived to find him lying injured on the ground and began providing medical assistance until Gillespie-Benld Area Ambulance personnel arrived. Cooper was taken to a hospital, where he later died, according to police reports. Police arrested Tyler L. Semplowski, 31, of Gillespie on charges of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless homicide. On Tuesday morning Semplowski was in the Macoupin County Jail on $75,000 bail.
