NORTH PROVIDENCE – Police Chief Arthur Martins says he’s finally ready to kickstart some of the initiatives that came to a screeching halt with the arrival of the pandemic last year, including the Police Department’s first in a series of “Coffee with a Cop” events. The opening event is planned for this Saturday, Feb. 27, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the North Providence Public Safety Complex, an informal event, said Martins, for residents to talk to officers about absolutely anything they want. “It’s an opportunity to engage in dialogue,” he said. Topics could range from issues in the community or a neighborhood to football and Tom Brady. “Whatever. There’s no set agenda,” said Martins. If a resident is encountering problems, police want to listen and help them solve them, he said, or if someone wants to “just have a beverage with a town official, they can do that as well. Nothing formal.”
