Christmas cheer after a bleak midwinter Christmas cheer after a bleak midwinter By Tony Way Normal text size St Patrick’s Cathedral, December 17 Released from the rigours of lockdown, Melburnians in search of Christmas cheer were amply rewarded with this uplifting concert devised and directed by Christopher Watson, director of music at Trinity College, University of Melbourne, who called on an ensemble of 18 professional singers, skilfully blending youth and experience, to present seasonal highlights from Handel’s Messiah and a selection of carols in the English tradition of King’s College, Cambridge. A generous choice of carols maintained the Yuletide spirit at St Patrick's Cathedral.
