CHULA VISTA — Chula Vista is focusing on building its future while it continues its COVID-19 recovery efforts, Mayor Mary Casillas Salas said Tuesday during the 2021 State of the City address. “As we continue our path towards full recovery from the pandemic, we are still working on the vital projects that will revitalize our community and our region,” she said. Among those is a series of developments within the 535-acre Chula Vista Bayfront project, including the construction of the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center, which is slated for later this year. On Tuesday, the city celebrated the completion of the bayfront’s luxury RV resort Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay and a pedestrian path that runs through Sweetwater Park. Since opening in April, the resort has had more than 3,000 guests from across the nation and Canada, said Sun Outdoors spokeswoman Kaitlin Egan.
