We open the show today in conversation with composer, orchestrator and musician Mathieu David Gagnon about his musical project Flore Laurentienne. Gagnon is about to release his third album as Flore Laurentienne. The album 8 tableaux draws inspiration from the works of artist Jean Paul Riopelle, as Gagnon created works to give musical form to Riopelle's paintings. Gagnon joins us today to talk about his new recording and what to expect when he brings Flore Laurentienne to the National Arts Centre's Azrieli Studio on Thursday, February 29th. I would like to thank Mathieu David Gagnon for taking the time to talk to us today and his efforts to explain his artistic vision in English. For tickets to the performance at the National Arts Centre use this link: https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/35484 For more information about Flore Laurentienne use these links: https://www.flore-laurentienne.com/ https://www.secretcityrecords.com/artists/flore-laurentienne/ "And now for something completely different..." we turn our attention to one of our Guest List favourites Tom Stewart from the Ottawa music scene. Tom is about to release a brand new album as Slo' Tom and the Handsome Devils called Doing Hard Time. Tom and the Handsome Devils will be performing twice next week - on Friday, March 1 at House of Targ and Saturday, March 2 at Red Bird Live! Tom joins us today to talk about the new recording and how the two shows next week will be quite distinct and highlight different aspects of his work with the Handsome Devils. So if you tuned in on the radio, consider giving this longer On Demand version of the show a listen. Also note that Tom will be joining me on Monday night, February 26th at 9 p.m. on The Wavelength. We will walk through the entire album and talk more about the upcoming gigs next week. Tom will also bring in some of his favourite tunes by other artists to spin on Monday night. It will be a blast so join us. Thanks for listening to the Guest List today and get out to see some live music this week and support independent music in any way that you can!
